Want to learn how to make a bouquet like this? The key is balancing thrillers (the stars like peonies), fillers (foliage and smaller flowers), and spillers (flowers and foliage that drape over the edge). We also stick to a consistent color palette of nearby tones like pink, white, and blue, and load it up with texture, feathery stems, and airy foliage. We're hosting bouquet arranging workshops and trainings throughout the year, and for the first time we're growing over a dozen new varieties of flowers and foliage to work with. We're also offering dried flower bouquet workshops for the first time this year! Check out links in the bio for events, dates, and registration. Can't wait? Stop by our volunteer day this Sunday (and every Sunday) from 11am to 2pm and make one then!

📝 Seeking a Grant-Focused Board Member. The farm has an eight-person volunteer grant team made up of community members who each dedicate about five hours a month to writing and prospecting grants for the farm. We’re looking for a board member with a background in grants and foundation relations to mentor this team and keep the work moving. Responsibilities include assigning grant opportunities to team members, reviewing and providing feedback on draft applications, tracking deadlines, and project managing submissions from start to finish. This is a meaningful leadership role for someone who wants to put their development expertise to work for a community organization they believe in. Experience with foundation grant writing and/or grants management is required. This may be a fully remote position. Find out more via the link in our bio.

🍅👋🏾 Meet Your Fellow Farmers. The farm has grown a ton this past year, and so has our community! We’ve got new project leads, new board members, and lots of new volunteers. To celebrate, you’re invited to Harvest & Hello on Friday, June 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. If you’ve volunteered with us even once, we’d love to see you there. We’ll have a short program where we’ll hear from a few project leads about what’s been happening around the farm, and a flower harvest so you can head home with a fresh bouquet. Food will be provided, but feel free to bring drinks. Free; RSVP via the link in our bio so we can get a count for food. Hope to see you there!

Tomorrow is the BIG DAY! Last summer, our students stepped up for their community in meaningful ways. 🌱 During our DC Summer Program, students volunteered at Edgewood community farm where they planted, prepared soil, removed weeds, and supported the garden throughout the week. Despite the summer heat, students showed commitment, teamwork, and dedication every day—and even took home fresh vegetables, fruits, and flowers to share with their families. 💛 These are the experiences your support makes possible. Early giving is OPEN NOW! Help us reach our $5,000 goal and support immigrant youth in DC this summer. 📅 Give Greater DC – May 12 🔗 Donate & share (link in bio) #GiveGreaterDC #dcsummerprograms #libertyspromise #spurlocal #supportimmigrantyouth

💛 A Note From Jose. Turning 40 has me thinking about legacy more than I used to. What I’ll leave behind. How to keep making a difference even when I’m not around anymore. It’s led to some real decisions. When I pass, I’m donating the Megahaus to Edgewood Community Farm so it can keep going as a space for events, community gatherings, and affordable housing. A place that keeps serving the neighborhood long after I’m here to see it. That’s actually what got us thinking about launching our Perennial Legacy Program. The idea is pretty simple: A legacy gift lets you support the farm beyond your lifetime, usually in ways that don’t affect your finances today. You can include the farm in your will, name us as a beneficiary on a retirement or life insurance account, give through a donor-advised fund, or donate land, stock, or other assets. Everyone who does becomes part of our Perennial Circle, with the option to be recognized on our website or on yellow bricks right here at the farm. If this is something you’ve been thinking about, or you’re just curious, reach out. We’re happy to talk it through.
