In the latter part of last year (fall 2023), Dr. Jessie-Lee McIsaac’s position as the Canada Research Chair at the Mount was renewed. This exciting news means another 5 years for the ECCRC to continue to build capacity for research focused on early childhood well-being.
In this renewed phase of the ECCRC, the centre will continue equity-focused research that mobilizes child, family and community voices to understand the impact of early childhood policy. We will also move toward co-designed innovations to enhance the available support for families and practitioners. #ECCRC #earlychildhood #research #equity #policy #innovation #support #childwellbeing #erlychildwellbeing

🌟What is happening at ECCRC?
Last week, the team presented the findings of one of our projects titled "Reconnecting and Reclaiming Africentricity: Applying Africentric Principles and Pedagogy in
Early Learning" in the Second Annual Black Child and Youth Wellbeing Conference held in Calgary.
Black children and youth in Canada face significant physical and mental health disparities, making it essential that we understand their unique experiences and needs in order to provide meaningful and culturally appropriate support. The conference provided a great opportunity to share the results of our critical work about the Africentric principles in Early Learning in Nova Scotia.
The ECCRC team is incredibly proud of Evelyn’s outstanding achievements this year! Graduating with distinction is an amazing accomplishment, and receiving the Lindsey Cousineau Award is such a well-deserved honour.
Your hard work, dedication, and perseverance have truly paid off, Evelyn, and we could not be happier for you. You continue to inspire everyone around you, and we are so excited to see all the wonderful things your future holds.
Congratulations, Evelyn — we are beyond proud of you! 🎉🎉❤️👏👏
“I’ve been meaning to tell you: A letter to my daughter” by David Chariandy
A slightly different Equity Resource Library post this week, our team has been reading a book, a personal and insightful letter to the authors daughter about the politics of race and his own experiences as the son of Black and South Asian migrants from Trinidad growing up in Canada. The team has spent the last few weeks reading and reflecting on this book and the experiences of newcomer children. A highly recommended book for your to-read list 📚
🎉New Article🎉
Dr. Jessie-Lee McIsaac, Julie, and Dr. Misty Rossiter have recently published an article in The Conversation: "For preschoolers, fear of new foods is common - and responding can feel anything but simple".
Through the lens of their CELEBRATE Feeding work, they discuss strategies like reducing pressure, table talk, encouraging food exploration, shifting perspectives around eating, and prioritizing curiosity and joyfulness.

Our director Jessie-Lee shared our Celebrate Feeding work at the Canadian Nutrition Society conference on a session focused on responsive feeding.
Co-Lead Misty Rossiter (UPEI) of Celebrate Feeding chaired the session, and co-presenters were Claire Tugault-Lafleur (UOttawa) and Ashna Chauhan (U Nebraska-Lincoln).
Thanks to the CNS for the opportunity to share our collective work in child care and all those that participated in our session!
Every lesson taught, every word of encouragement, and every extra effort you give makes a lasting difference in the lives of your students and our community.📝
Thank you for all that you do—today and every day🤍
