Great event coming up this Thursday at the Marx Memorial Library! Reds on the Green - Walter Crane & the Twentieth Century Press Thu 14th May, 6-8pm, FREE As part of the Marx Memorial Library’s ongoing Reds on the Green programme with Islington Heritage—exploring the area’s rich radical history—this special event focuses on the influential artist and socialist Walter Crane and his connection to the Twentieth Century Press. The evening will begin with an illustrated introduction to Crane’s politically engaged work, delivered by artist and educator Matthew Frame. Frame’s practice explores narrative, ornament, and the grotesque through intricate hand-drawn imagery. An award-winning, internationally exhibited artist, he is also the founder of Jaune Press and teaches at the University of Greenwich, where he champions critical thinking and expanded approaches to illustration. Following the talk, participants are invited to take part in a hands-on May Day garland-decorating workshop led by Ursula Stone of the Flower Bank inspired by Crane’s decorative style and socialist ideals. The garlands created during the session will be displayed at the Marx Memorial Library. The table tennis sessions there have been essential to managing his health.# His son learned to swim at Golden Lane - and went on to compete at national level. One facility. One community. Generations of lives shaped by it. The City of London Corporation @cityoflondoncorp is closing Golden Lane on 30 April. It is the only closure in England following Fusion Lifestyle’s administration. Every other council found a way to keep their facility open. Stephen has already made his feelings known to Chris Hayward, the City’s Policy Chairman, on LinkedIn. Now he’s sharing his story directly.
