Before the Europeans arrived in New Zealand, bringing with them stoats and weasels, New Zealand was void of land mammals and bird predators. Consequently, much of New Zealandās charming endemic birds are flightless. As the possums, weasels, stoats, cats and dogs thrive and multiply, birds like the Kiwi, KÄkÄpÅ and TakahÄ near extinction.
Much to our delight, three breeding pairs of TakahÄ arrived to @rosewoodcapekidnappers last month and these two were waiting to greet us upon arrival. To put our luck in perspective, TakahÄs are super shy and the 6,000 acre property is made up of thick forest, rolling pastures and one gorgeous golf course. There are only 500 remaining in the wild and conservation specialists decided to allocate the breeding pairs here due to Capeās commitment to preserving the land for endemic birds like Kiwi, KÄkÄ and TakahÄs. They fence the land off to keep predators out and have thousands of traps to cull the invasive species. These guys walk like chickens, look like giant parrots and have peacock coloring and allowed me to get super close because I happened to be wearing the exact same outfit as the sanctuary team. Yes, this is now a birding account. #indagaretravel #howyoutravelmatters #indagareambassadors
Did you know that kiwi egg to kiwi mom ratio is equivalent to giving bird-th to a 30lb toddler? That they are flightless, fiercely territorial and nocturnal? That they have whiskers at the tip of their beak to aid their senses in search of food? And that only 75,000 remain in the wild? Bingo, pictured here, is being nurtured by the National Kiwi Hatchery in Rotarua, one of 83 of their hatchlings in the past 12 months. Meeting him was a life highlight. If you sponsor a hatchling on their website, you too can visit and even hold them. š„ Indagare Magic ā¢ļø conducted by @elizasharris and our amazing partners in New Zealand. #indagaretravel #howyoutravelmatters
The ATW (all-terrain women) #indagareambassadors have landed in New Zealand for our 2026 incentive trip. Yesterday, we visited Glenorchy, spotted rainbows by jet boat, shopped at Mrs. Woolleyās, dined on crayfish and beef cheek (and fruit from Tomās garden) @blanket_bay before being picked up by helicopter and whisked into the mountains to a gold minerās hideaway from the 1800s. Best day ever. #indagaretravel #howyoutravelmatters

People make places. The recap of our #indagareambassador scouting trip to Marrakech was released this week in our @indagaretravel newsletter. Sign up to learn about the new openings in Sidi Ghanem like the gorgeous new @lallamarrakech atelier, and a favorite new hotel (and team!) @jnanerumi . Thank you to our Ambassadors for making everything infinitely more fun, to our Moroccan friends and partners for being the best in the world and to @indagarefounder for inspiring us to be better travelers and journalists. The founders of @lemapmarrakech and owners of the collection joined us for our private tour and Melissa translated the entire one hour visit from French to English. She does it all, people! #indagaretravel #howyoutravelmatters
