• Fun Friday — As the end of the year is fast approaching, I find myself pondering what was the most fun car I’ve driven this year, & I’m thinking it might be this beast — the Mustang GTD. It was a blast because, not only did I get to drive it the way it was intended to be driven — fast & proper — but because I was also tasked with killing a couple sets of its rear tires sliding sideways on the steering lock-stops (& once maybe beyond those lock stops…ooops 😬 Hey, we all get it wrong now & then). Crazy though, that while it was also incredibly fast, it doesn’t crack the top 5 this year in that regard. Yeah, it’s been a good year for me in fast cars. Anyway, I can’t wait to watch The Grand Tour next year to see what part of the sideways shenanigans make the episode! • ‘Till Next Time Tuesday — Another great week spent with talented coworkers sharing our love & knowledge with the members at the Precision Drive Club at the very fast Miami International Autodrome. How fast, you ask? In the 750-hp beast above we’re over 150 mph three times per lap during hot laps, nearly touching 170 mph twice per lap, & in one of those instances, into a daunting, not straight nor straightforward braking area, no less. • Maranello Monday — “Monaco in Red” is my last non-commissioned, available-to-purchase painting for a little while, as I’m happy to say I’ll be focusing my attention on commissioned pieces for a while. The subject of this piece is one of my favorite F1 cars of all time, the 1967 Ferrari 312, depicted here as driven to a podium finish by New Zealander Chris Amon at Monte Carlo in ‘67. “Monaco in Red” measures 48” x 24” & will soon be mounted in a floating frame, ready to be shipped to a new home somewhere. • Flat-6 Friday — My other latest acrylic on canvas original painting features the 2018 Porsche 911 RSR as driven by Earl Bamber & Laurens Vanthoor in the IMSA GTLM class in action (I finished this one before inspiration struck to create the Ferrari 312 piece in my stories). This was a quick piece on which I tried to stay relatively loose, while still being accurate to the car & its movements. Dimensionally it’s 49.5” x 24,” with the subject offset for a dynamic composition to match the car’s dynamic attitude. It will soon be getting varnished & set into a “floating frame,” after which it will be ready to be sent to a new home.
