African Pulse Cover Story
The HEAVY KATS Black Studies programme is not just concerned with black expressive cultures via the black sonic. We are committed to thinking critically about archives, memory, and how time shapes our embodiment of life on Earth across time. In line with this expansive approach to HK, we are fortunate and excited to release Kanu Ntshoko’s African Pulse on 26/06/2026, available across all DSPs. As part of African Pulse we are honoured to have embarked on this work under the grace and guiding light of the late and great Dr. Peter Magubane’s work.
African Pulse speaks to the complex assemblages of being, which today continue to shape how we feel, remember, and tend to the residues and fragments of memory. This is a tender act of gathering. The energy of collective. The assembly of the many. The pulse that sustains us. This incredible body of music can only be ushered in by a similarly powerful piece, lent to us by the family of Dr. Magubane.
We thank them for seeing the value of our work as HEAVY KATS and collaborating with us as we do with all our partners.
Dr. Peter Magubane to Kanu Ntshoko. The pairing of black expression as one endless voice from one generation to the next. African Pulse was there in 1976 and Kanu echo’s it with the beat of each drum in 2026.
We invite you to gather, and listen.
Be present.

Next month you’ll get the first single off @aviwesikele project “GREASE”.
Sound wise, think psych-rock synth pop. A dash of Tame Impala with a hint of Beiber. Trust .
