Happy heavenly birthday to my dad, who would have been 91 today ā¤ļø He was our OG sailor, who pushed us into this mad (and often maddening) sport. It’s fitting that his son is out on the water today, racing up a storm, and it’s a thrill for me to be able to come and watch. I know my dad and mom would be SO proud of him. (My mom would be doing the happy-cry thing that I am.) I’m so grateful for the time I had with my dad even if it was cut way too short. Always missing him, always loving him. HBD Dad!

This one goes to…11! Happy birthday to my sweet, funny, chicken nugget-loving, pasta-leaning, video game-forward, veg/fruit-backward, always-my-baby, baby James. So much has changed in the past 11 years. But I love you beyond measure—and that’s one thing that never will. Thank you for my front row seat to your life. šŸ’—

#FBF To that time James was a Good Thing (well, the painted apple box/step was the Good Thing, but I'm biased). I come across so many friends and former colleagues (and their kids!) when looking through the Martha Stewart Living archives...and sometimes even family. I remember this day so well because we needed a little model stat, which was not unusual, and I was a tad reluctant because he hadn't had a haircut in awhile. But J was excited to be at mom's office (Starrett was a fun place). We had to put toy trains in that sink so that he would look down and focus on them rather than merrily galloping around the studio in circles. 🩵 #HeDidn'tGoPro #adventureswithbabyjames Photo by @addiejuell

Happy Valentine’s day! This was pretty fun and pretty easy, and given it was very last minute, I did not expect it to be fun or easy. Let me also preface this by saying, I don’t mean to make this sound like a Cricut ad (it isn’t). Admittedly, I have had this one for years and never known exactly what the heck to do with it… The project: Last night we needed valentines for all of my son’s 5th grade classmates today—and we can’t give candy or food anymore, which sidelined our go-to cookie baking tradition. I was hoping to give something fun and useful, something that wouldn’t be pitched by week’s end (here’s to hoping) and was coming up empty the days beforehand. But we came up with the idea of making personalized bookmarks. (I was definitely more excited than he was, but then he got into it.) We debated just writing names on these inexpensive wooden bookmarks with paint pens and adding tassels (would be cool too tho), but then I remembered the Cricut in the bottom of my office closet…and thought how does this thing even work. I pulled it out and watched a few YouTube videos. My son then punched in his classmates’ names. We fed two sheets of shiny adhesive paper into the thing and I literally prayed it worked (a last-minute mom Hail Mary for sure). And it did! We peeled and stuck the cutouts on—one side controlled (me), the other side kinda crazy with letters any which way (him) and he made the tags. It took some sticky finger skills at first but we had a little crafting adventure last night, and this time at least, I think it worked out. Most important, he was proud of the work, even if we both felt Cricut (first name basis, we’re calling our future puppy Cricket we decided) did all the hard work. Now that sounds like an ad. Again it’s not, happy Valentine’s Day ā¤ļøšŸ’™ā¤ļøšŸ’™ā¤ļø
