“Roger’s core idea is that the world doesn’t begin and end with you. Other people exist, and you should care about them, even if you’ve never met them. You should try to understand them even if you didn’t know they existed five minutes ago.”

Many thanks to @themainscoopicecream for their constant presence at Ebertfest. These years wouldn’t be the same without the sweetness they provide not just through their ice cream but through their presence. A snapshot of their set up for this year’s final edition of the festival where they kept many a theater guest happy and cool:
Apologies for the error in yesterday’s post. We’re thrilled and grateful for our sponsor, @allianceforinclusionandrespect , for their generous sponsorship and partnership in bringing @charliebird.film to Ebertfest. It was a delight to host Actress, Producer, and Writer Samantha Smart for a post-film Q&A. Seek out this special gem wherever, and be sure to follow the alliance and their work!
Ebertfest: The Last Dance would not be possible without our sponsors and we’d like to thank our lead sponsor, @centurylaw_firm and @jeffwesthoff for their generosity and kindness. They also hosted the opening and closing night parties which were wonderful times of fellowship, rest, and socialization after a packed day of screenings and Q&As.
A few of our @bobtrevinolikesit portraits from @ebertfest this last weekend. It may be “the last dance” at Ebert fest, but it’s not the end. Our love for cinema will continue! More to come! Thank you @timothy_hiatt for these photos of Tracie Laymon and French Stewart after their Q and A. What a beautiful screening and weekend all around. #bobtrevinolikesit #ebertfest #frenchstewart #tracielaymon #rogerebert
Thank you @ebertfest for 27 incredible years! Visitors from around the world to Chambana welcoming acclaimed actors, directors, and writers and proving we can host a film experience that rivals those in much larger destinations. Impact goes far beyond the screen, driving visitation, supporting local businesses, and elevating our @experiencechampaign region on a national stage.
Major bonus last night getting to see “Chili Finger” filmed a year ago in our community featuring Judy Greer, John Goodman, Sean Astin, and Bryan Cranston — such a great movie! And then today with a farewell brunch for sponsors, partners, our advisory committee, etc.
On a personal note, this festival has always meant so much to my family. Great memories of my dad, Jim Turpin, hosting Roger, Chaz, Nate, and so many talented artists on NewsTalk 1400 WDWS over the years. Those moments and the connections created through Ebertfest are something I’ll always cherish.
A celebration of film, community, and the power of storytelling.

“Any film can be overlooked and any film can be rediscovered,” said critic Michael Phillips in remembrance of the ways Roger Ebert’s championed of overlooked and underseen films. More pictures from today’s Q&A with Anvil Orchestra member Terry Donahue and RogerEbert.com contributing editor @nminow after the screening of THE GENERAL.
That’s a wrap on day 1 of Ebertfest: The Last Dance! Thank you for celebrating a wonderful day of movies and a special thank you to our filmmaker guests: Samantha Smart, Michael Barker, James Vanderbilt, Luke Boyce, Michael Moreci, Tracie Laymon, French Stewart, and Betty Gabriel.
