Introducing: The Varnish Project
Our rental manager, Elizabeth, expressed interest in learning how to varnish, and with her extensive background in the arts, fabric, and costuming, Robyn knew she had the eye and instinct for it. So we decided to turn it into a project.
We’re taking two white violins (one Strad model, one Guarneri model) and varnishing them in-house from start to finish. One will get traditional spirit varnish, the other oil varnish. Right now, they’re tanning, and we’ve already started some re-graduating with the whole team.
Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing the journey:

🎶 The attention to detail that goes into the finishing touches
🎶 Why this process matters for sound quality and instrument aesthetics

Many Thanks to my new favorite band, “Flight of the Seabirds” ( EB, Jared & Dave) for their performance on the Gallery deck last Sunday afternoon during our Spring Opening. Playing a perfect eclectic mix of fun tunes from Grateful Dead to French cafe to gypsy jazz to Klezmer! OMG! I loved it & so did the crowd. It was their debut performance as a group so their first play out but not their last! Looking forward to the next one! They will again on Saturday April 26th as the closing band of our Neighborhood MiniMusic Fest running from 12-6. Evan & I will join them for few tunes in a collaborative effort with us, Honeybears, formerly the “Barncats”.
