Arguably the most beautiful painting I’ve made so far, I’m so proud of this artwork. As the center piece of my thesis show, “Reverie”, this piece inspired me to continue pursue painting the way I prefer — classically, historically, but with a spark of contemporary identity!
I hope I can make something as grandiose as this in the future, but I’ll take my time now as I have just graduated :)
I spent around 3 months making this painting at @prattinstitute . I will miss my small studio for sure ♥️

Inspired by John Singer Sargent’s Portrait of Madame X.
Returning to my series of feminist paintings (check out my website to see the whole series!), I was inspired by the unjust of her story. Furthermore, I pluck the wings of a cupid from Titian’s painting ( The Rape of Europa) who are typically used in old master paintings to normalise aggression towards woman.

A bit late for Chinese New Year but I swear I made it on the day of — 😂
My Chinese Zodiac is actually Horse as well, signifying independence, energy, and freedom. I feel like I already started the year off outside my comfort zone, but so far it’s going well! Since this is the year of the Horse, I am looking forward to new opportunities, people, and paintings that I will create!
Got a little more footage of me painting with oils on top of the paper, and the materials surprisingly supports one another. It also dries relatively fast compared to painting on oil paper :)

Diversifying from a mostly Chinese color palette to my regular oil painting color palette, this new painting is a harmonious blend of my oil painting roots and Chinese painting methods. The exploration of composition through balancing the cut outs of the background and the subject matter remains a challenge.
