Album 5 is going well! Pretty much have 2/10 tunes down, working at a snails pace which is essentially the speed of my life. Bout to leave for Sydney to play a coupla shows down that way! Be sure to come along 🙏
In August, I spent three days at @easymachinerecordings studio. An old cottage on Yugambeh country. Nestled deep in the winding hills and bushland. Cows mooed in the morning, dogs barked in the afternoon, and the rhythm of not so distant road trains and motorbikes kept us company all day through. I invited dear pals @anna.schneid and @claudie.joy to join in on harmonies. We recorded live takes late into the evenings, broken by warm dinners around the fire and listen throughs on the porch. Claud and Anna first heard (most of) the songs a day before the session, so with lyrics in hand we improvised and laughed our way through many of the attempts. This was not (entirely) a fault of preparedness but rather a hope to capture something dear, the sharing of music with friends, to have room to play around with the songs, not getting caught up in the overthinking of it all. That being said I am very happy with how it came out and am looking forward to sharing it soon.
This is an alternate version of track 5, “sweet red wine”, an ode to playing music with my friends, which seems fitting. We recorded it after finishing the live takes for the whole album. So it’s a little more weary and late night than the album version!

The almighty @emurocknroll rolled into the studio with fridge sized amps, and a whole lotta power. Coming from a folk background this was easily the wildest band I’ve recorded live, I could feel the air moving as it made room for the sound waves. Epically talented fellas! Had the pleasure of recording @anjalileonardmusic and her red hot band a week ago. Managed to capture a bit of that magic on film, with this tune called ‘Stargazer’. Full and widescreen version is on our YouTube channel.
A while back I ran a competition for any songwriter to submit a tune and I’d pick my personal fave and record it for free. This is the tune that took the cake. He flew all the way up from Melbourne to give it a go. @callumwyliemusic is a brilliant songwriter, so get listening!
