‘I Sat In One Place Until It Became Many’ is out now! This is the second single from upcoming album ‘With Time’ by Sydney collective ‘Mircofiche’! The track explores immersion, and the richness that can be uncovered through openness to your surroundings. The piece was inspired by the many sunsets composer Sam Gill has watched over the bushlands of Glenbrook in the lower Blue Mountains. This track is one of the most sonically distinct the band have recorded, fully delving into its new electric sound. ‘Koondarnangor (thunder)’ is out now! ‘Koondarnangor (thunder)’ is the first single from the upcoming album ‘Even Quiet Embers Carry Fire’ by guitarist Jess Green, saxophonist Sandy Evans, and Dylan van der Schyff on drums. This track expresses the mythical fascination with thunder, lightning, and the power of the stars for human life. Koondarnangor is the word for thunder for the Noongar people of Southwestern Australia – it is deeply connected to creation stories involving the rainbow serpent and therefore describes a phenomenon that links ancestral stories with the natural environment. The piece moves through various transformations of energy and emotion that evoke the beauty and violence of nature and the cosmos, while never losing sight of the beautiful but melancholic mood introduced at the outset.  Head to our link in bio to listen now! #ausjazz #newmusic #jazztrio #improvisedmusic

Distant Birds, VOL. 01 & 02 is out now! DISTANT BIRDS are. Chris Abrahams: Keyboards and Programming Dave Symes: Bass and Programming While Abrahams brings his signature blend of minimalism, ambience and melodic disquiet—hailed by The Wire as “one of the most restless and musical artists anywhere” - Symes infuses the music with an earthy, groove-laden sensibility drawn from his expansive experience in pop, jazz, and experimental scenes. With roots in bands like Prop, Aronas and Boy & Bear, and shaped by his formative years under the mentorship of the late Jackie Orszaczky, Symes’ musical direction is both grounded and exploratory. Volume 1 & 2 is a natural extension of these creative trajectories: long-form tracks that eschew predictable structures in favour of evolving, conversational intensity. The horns act like a fourth voice-threading, interrupting, and echoing themes-adding yet another layer to this deeply organic and genre-defying sonic journey. With special guests Evan Mannell: Drums and Percussion Matthew Ottignon: Tenor and Baritone Saxophone Ellen Kirkwood: Trumpet Head to our link in bio to listen now! #ausmusic #newmusicfriday #ausjazz #jazzrecord

The first single ‘Koondarnangor (thunder)’ from the upcoming album ‘Even Quiet Embers Carry Fire’ is out tomorrow! Even Quiet Embers Carry Fire brings together guitarist Jess Green, saxophonist Sandy Evans, and drummer Dylan van der Schyff in a deeply attentive exploration through free improvisation that evokes experiences of space and nature, through shifting patterns of light, sound, and feeling. The music  evokes  landscapes transformed  by weather and climate change. Initiated by Green and shaped through long-standing musical relationships, the trio draw on shared sensibilities spanning ambient music, noise, and free jazz, creating music that unfolds patiently and with quiet intensity. #ausmusic #ausjazz #trio #newmusicfriday

The second singe ‘I Sat In One Place Until It Became Many’ from the upcoming Microfiche album ‘With Time’ is out tomorrow! Microfiche are a long-running collective of six of Australia’s most creative and boundary-pushing improvising musicians. Since forming in 2015, Microfiche’s individual members have become some of Australia’s most cutting-edge and esteemed improvisers, and collectively as an ensemble they have developed their own recognisable aesthetic and a strong shared musical telepathy. Their music emerges from a lineage of Australian acts as diverse as The Necks, Simon Barker and The Australian Art Orchestra, forging a distinctive and celebrated approach all their own. The group folds together beautifully composed and orchestrated compositions, meditative soundscapes, electronics and timbral explorations with post-rock arcs and energetic free-jazz eruptions. This is music with a vanguard spirit.   Max Alduca - electric & acoustic basses; Nick Calligeros - trumpet; Holly Conner - drums & percussion, electronics, production, and piano (track 2); Sam Gill - alto & soprano saxophones, percussion (track 3); Novak Manojlovic - piano, keyboards, and electronics; Phillippa Murphy-Haste - clarinet & bass clarinet, viola (track 3). #ausmusic #improvisedmusic #newmusicfriday #ausjazz #earshiftmusic

Distant Birds, VOL. 01 & 02 is out this Friday! Distant Birds is the hypnotic new collaboration between Chris Abrahams (The Necks) and Dave Symes (Boy & Bear). A project born from deep musical trust and mutual curiosity, their debut release VOL. 01 & 02 traverses twilight soundscapes of pulsing grooves, moody atmospheres and extended improvisational forms. Channeling 70s Afrobeat, soul, and dub-reggae influences, the music is raw yet intricately textured-Moog synths, Fender Rhodes and Hammond organs swirl over infectious bass lines, with layers of saxophone and trumpet doubling Abraham’s extended right hand extemporisations, and Evan Mannell’s subtly shifting drum patterns. The result is a world of syncopated hooks and rhythmic interplay, designed as much for the dancefloor as for immersive, headphone listening. Recorded live in single takes, the album captures the spontaneity and fluid energy of the band in full flight. #ausmusic #ausjazz #jazzrecord #newmusicfriday

Recorded simply as a quartet, the album features extensive overdubbing, synthesizers, and explorations that stretch the boundaries of their acoustic base. #ausmusic #newjazzrecord #jazzrelease #newmusic #ausjazz

The Elevator Child is out now! The Elevator Child was arrived at through a process of improvisation and serendipitous lyric writing. The individual fragments that make up each track are undeniably of our time - absurd, erratic, existential and defiantly hopeful. The assembly of these elements are formalised, resulting in a highly tuned critique of the culturally and spiritually confused world that we find ourselves in. Words by Chris Gaynor Andrew Saragossi - saxophones, electronics, composition Helen Svoboda - vocals, electronics, double bass, bass guitar, composition Pat Telfer - production, recording, mixing Head to our link in bio to listen now! #ausmusic #newmusicfriday #ausjazz #jazzduo
