Some artists and musicians are products of their times; think of the 1960s hippie movement symbolised by The Beatles and Jefferson Airplane. Or N.W.A. capturing the rage of anger of Black communities towards the police in the 1980s. For the early onset of grime, a time that changed it all for Black British music, East London MC @ears_rg represented the lyrical fluidity and mental attitude of the new generation of musical upstarts, ready to take over London, the UK and the world. I finally got a chance to go see the Grime exhibition on @museumoflondon yesterday. It’s so well done and has a recreation of @jammerbbk basement. Aka “The Dungeon”. A place that’s very important to me and the entire scene at large. An iconic space that’s super important to the history of Grime. Definitely one of its Mecca’s. And a hub filled with so many nang, unforgettable, classic moments! (Too many to mention) I spent a lot of man hours down in that basement honing and perfecting my craft. Recording songs like “Grim” with Wiley and JME, “Happy Days”, more than half of “Breath Of Fresh Ears” and so many more from my early catalog. Witnessed a lot of history in the making in real time. And I’m so proud and grateful to have been a part of shaping the sound and culture we all know and love today. This exhibition was sick still. Really nostalgic and kinda emotional for me I cant lie, they really captured the feeling of the family, community and love this place holds. I recommend anyone that loves and appreciates Grime to go check it out before the exhibition ends. Big up! @riskyroadz for this one. A few months ago I was given the honour of being best man at my best friend’s wedding. Not only that I was was also given the privilege of being his and his beautiful wife’s “Wedding Officiator” a title I held with much pride and overwhelmed me when asked if I would accept such an honourable task. I could have cried. (If I remembered how. But that’s another story that therapy and inner child shadow work is helping me tackle) We’ve known each other since we were just 10 years old so needless to say it was a trip to see him on his big day tying the knot! The small and intimate wedding ceremony was so fitting for their union. And everyone that attended brought such an amazing energy and not one iota of energy was out of place. Vibes from the moment we landed on the island. The nerves only started rolling in when on the boat and the ocean waves took my stomach by storm and had me hurling overboard (twice) just 15 minutes before I was set to wed them. Once I got myself together I was ready. And gave a speech and ceremony from the heart. I love to see love and happiness. No matter how that looks. I pray that thier union is blessed with the strength and endurance of all those that built the pyramids. And I hope that they grow together building their foundation day by day. It was so beautiful to witness and no words could express my gratitude and my head swelled with pride. The fact they asked me of all people to help join them on this big day. Wow! I hope one day I get the opportunity of finding an unconditional love. Worthy enough of me choosing daily to do life with. Hopefully one day I’ll meet my mirror soul.
