What is the life of a printmaker really like?
A collaborative project between @eamesfineart and the writers’ group 26, the First Impressions project involved 19 writers visiting 19 artists at their printmaking studios to answer this question.
Each artist introduced their studio space to the writers and discussed how they work, their routines, the joys of printmaking and some of the challenges they face, revealing wonderful insights into their art and their working habits. In response, the writers wrote poems about what they discovered. Each of these has now been recorded aloud, and paired with video footage of the original meetings by award-winning cinematographer and director Mike Southon to produce a fascinating documentary.
A beautiful, engaging and personal glimpse into 19 printmakers’ studios, the film will be screened as part of LOPF 2026 on Sunday 17 May.

Yesterday @gail_brodholt joined us at the Eames Collectors’ Studio to talk about her latest linocuts and how the subjects of her work evolve.
We loved hearing her discuss the way she has to work out each composition like a complex jigsaw puzzle!
Some of the talk will be available on our website soon, but Gail’s works are on show at the Eames Studio for you to pop in to view and purchase today (Sunday 3 May)

‘April Come She Will’
is Gail Brodholt’s fabulous new linocut named after the beautiful song by Simon & Garfunkel and shows the view across ordered allotments in Mudchute towards Docklands in London.
The linocut will be first made available to collectors today, Saturday 2 May from the Eames Fine Art Studio in London SE1.
The linocut measures
600 x 770 mm (paper size)
500 x 645 mm (image size)
And it costs £690 unframed
Gail will be joining us at the Studio this Saturday to talk with visitors about her printmaking and her love of London.
She will be at the Studio from 11am until 2pm today. You are welcome to pop by, meet Gail and see the new work.
April Come She Will is available to purchase directly from Eames Fine Art either in the Studio or online while the edition lasts.

Gail Brodholt in her studio printing the four colours of her gorgeous new linocut 'April Come She Will' (named after the Simon & Garfunkel song.)
This stunning new print which is the view across much coveted London allotments towards Docklands, will be launched at the Eames Collectors' Studio on Saturday (2 May). It is a limited edition and will sell on a first come, first served basis.
Gail will join us at the Studio - and will be speaking with Vincent Eames about this latest print and the evolution of her work.
We have just a few spots left for the talk so please email the gallery if you would like to book places.
Otherwise pop into the Studio from 12.30 onwards on Saturday to meet Gail and see the work up close. We'll have a full selection of Gail's works on display and available on the day.
