On May 5, 1862, General Ignacio Zaragoza — born in Texas, hero of Mexico — led an outnumbered army to one of history's greatest upsets at the Battle of Puebla. Today, his name lives on right here in East Austin.
If you have not been to Parque Zaragoza yet, this is your sign to come enjoy the beautiful park and everything it has to offer.

Spring is coming and the Amigos along with AMAZING volunteers came together to get ready for it during #itsmyparkday2026 We cleaned up trash and then created a wildflower meadow 🌻 Can’t wait to see the radiance of our hard work! Best volunteers- the rain didn’t scare anyone away 🌧️ 💪🏽 🙌🏽 So grateful!
If you've ever wanted to learn more about local birds and how to identify them, now is your chance!
Join EAC as we learn the basics of bird watching and go on a casual bird walk starting from Parque Zaragoza with folks from Travis Audubon.
With spring migration underway, we may spot some very interesting birds!
Bird field guides and binoculars will be provided.
Hope to see you there!
From fenced space to wildflower meadow 🌼🌿
After the Parque Zaragoza pool house renovation, a protected area around two heritage Live Oaks became an unexpected meadow. Over the past year, Amigos de Parque Zaragoza have worked with Austin Parks & Rec to remove invasives like Johnson Grass and reseed with native grasses and wildflowers.
On It’s My Parks Day THIS SATURDAY, we’ll define the meadow boundaries, plant natives, and help this space thrive. 🌳✨ Supplies will be provided- all that is needed is YOU!
We’ve been a little quiet over here — but not in the community.
East Austin Conservancy is powered by a team of one full time employee (plus two incredible interns 💛), and we’ve been deep in the work.
We appreciate your patience and support and look forward to seeing you at upcoming events!
