Tim Savage’s Vintage Flying Machines mission to tell stories through paint schemes remains unchanged with this AT-6D’s new “Ball of Fire” livery.
This livery commemorates an AT-6 squadron hack of the 378th Fighter Squadron, 362nd Fighter Group, which secured a WWII aerial victory by bringing down a German Fieseler Storch.

Seeing this Champion Lancer 402 at #OSH25 was a rare treat! Designed in the 1960s as a more affordable option for multi-engine training, it helped generations of pilots like Paul Rankin earn their rating.
Paul now preserves this aircraft to keep that legacy alive, and it’s truly great to see this uncommon airplane still flying today!
