🐬The next episode of Dubbing the Everyday on @rough.radio features “Dolphin Dance,” a live set by @e.ll.ll.e , the electronic music project of multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer Leonardo Cini.
🐳The performance creates a dialogue between downtempo modular synth improvisations and vividly narrated field recordings from "Le voci dei mammiferi marini" (The Voices of Marine Mammals), a cassette released in the 1980s by the Italian music therapy and audio-documentary label Ludi Sound.
From dolphin clicks to humpback whale songs, these fascinating animal voices merge with the modular synth, adding a further mysterious and playful layer to the narration.
Dolphin Dance is, above all, an experiment in playful exchange between animal sound and electronic music. It is also a way of bringing these beautiful, little-known recordings to a wider audience: the tapes are not available online and seem to have largely slipped into obscurity.
