A few weeks ago I was going through the hardest time of my life. and I mean the hardest. the kind where you don't really recognize yourself anymore, where getting out of bed feels like a victory.
in the middle of all that, I booked a flight to Asia. one of those decisions you make at 2am and don't fully understand yourself.
the day after, I wanted a refund. I didn't have the energy. I didn't feel ready. I almost convinced myself to stay home.
but I went.
Chongqing is unlike anything I've ever seen, streets stacked on top of each other, neon lights bleeding into the fog, monorails cutting through buildings. it looks like someone designed it in a video game and forgot to tell the people living there.
and the weird part is that I went there far away from my usual world. usually my mind is constantly focused on metros, planning things, thinking ahead, dealing with the stress that comes with it all. this time, I didn’t go there for any of that. I needed something completely different.
I met strangers who became friends in a matter of hours. I got lost on purpose. I ate things I couldn't name. I celebrated my birthday there, surrounded by people I'd known for 48 hours, and it was genuinely one of the best trip of my life.
I left heavy. I came back light.
