In Safe Hands
The time has come to transform the wall I painted 8 years ago and give it a new life. After previously portraying a sterile woman, I wanted this time to approach the subject with more positivity.
I chose to depict two sisters: one taking care of the other, in a scene that is both soft and dramatic, filled with emotion and meaning.

فاش كنسالي شي خدمة يكون حيط، طابلو ولا حتى ورقة ديما كنبقى محتار مع راسي: واش بصح زوين هادشي ولا لا؟ عمرني ما حسّيت بالرضا على لخدمة ديالي، و فالغالِب كنحاول مانعاودش نشوفها. كندوز دغيا لحاجة جديدة، وهاكا ديما…
الصّعيب هو أنّ كل خدمة كتاخد مني بزاف د الوقت: سوايع، أيّام، وحتى شهور. و داك اللّحظة ديال آخر خط كنرسمو ف الحيط، كتكون بحال وداع. بحال إلى كانتفرق مع حاجة عشت معاها بواحد الحماس، ولكن خاصها تسالي تما.
و مانعاودش نرجع ليها
هاد الحيط خدمتو ف البينين 🇧🇯 من عام. ومن داك النهار ماعاودتش شفتو ( لحيط). واليوم رجعت نشوفها بعين أخرى، شفتها بمنظور فشكل على آخر مرا. وبغيت نشاركها معاكم.
Upon finishing any artwork be it a wall, a canvas, or even a humble piece of paper I tend to ask myself an all important question: “Is this any good?” I have not really experienced this feeling of satisfaction in relation to my work and more often than not, I tend to ignore it altogether. I simply jump into the next work in line and so the cycle continues. I don’t ask myself any more questions. The answer is not crucial.
The unfortunate part is the time every piece demands from is precious: hours, days, and even, months, sometimes. When I think about it, the time it takes me to add the last line on a wall is the moment when I feel the closest to parting with the work. It is a peculiar feeling parting with something I feel so intensely, yet, so simply, must end in the moment.
This is a mural I painted in Benin 🇧🇯 a year back. I had not looked at it since then. Somehow, today, having a fresh perspective on it, I really liked it. And I wanted to share it with all of you.
