...sometimes I scream or want to scream when frustrated, anxious, when things aren’t going well. Besides all the internal and external attributes of life currently being experienced, I woke up in frustration after being awaken from a dream. As a coping mechanism, I then decided to make a short about frustration, anger, anxiety, while in the emotion. I got up, went for my tripod only to notice that i misplaced it. 🙂
That was the end of whatever my day was going to be. Shot the content anyway, angrily. Edited it, angrily. Exporting it, angrily…only for it to give trouble to export. While all this is happening in my spirit I’m hearing the verse Philippians 4:6-7. The Holy Spirit always surprises me in moments like these. He really does listen and pay attention to us. Instead of going to Him about how I’m feeling I substituted that for a ‘coping mechanism’. That might look different for everybody. However, this just reminds me (and reminding you too) that the word solves every problem we face and emotion we feel but where does our trust and faith lie?
For me I’ve always seen theatre and film as a great avenue of expression, teaching and educating. This was a real life experience and this was my story. There are many others that either relate and are different. This film was just a generic expression of what was inside and this was the result.

Last week Thursday I had the opportunity provided by @moentskn to share with the students at George Moody Stuart School on what it means to be (a) creative. I shared some experiences about what being creative has done for me and where it has allowed me to be as it relates to my theatre career. A greater sense of freedom, accomplishments, increased confidence, enhanced expression, saving and making money were some of the benefits that were shared during my short presentation.
The goal of my presentation was to enhance the awareness of being (a) creative as well as informing my audience that it is quite ok to choose any career within the creative arena. Becoming a Lawyer, Doctor, Teacher is cool or whatever; but within the four white walls of those offices hang paintings, created by an artist, a creative. The stellar costumes worn by our people to parade in the streets of Basseterre for Sugar Mas, the white coats worn by our Doctors and the black robes worn by our Lawyers were created by fashion designers, tailors; all apart of the creative industry.
Let us put just as much effort (or even more) into our creative arena here in SKN and the Caribbean by extension as much as we put into our nine to five professions. I am quite elated to have been granted this opportunity to assist in changing the stigma of viewing our creatives as ‘less than’ as well as changing that dimmed bulb over the creative platform in efforts to shine a BRIGHTER light on all our TALENTS. We the creatives ARE your entertainment.
To the young aspiring creatives out there, whatever your desired career may be, remember the ‘Triple D’ from Dylan B.
Determination! Dedication! Destination! Be creative!
Recently I’ve been awarded a scholarship by UNESCO Transcultura Programme for a two week course; WRITING AND PRODUCTION OF LOW-BUDGET FILMS LEARNING BY DOING. My final project for this course was to produce a three (3) minute short film.
This is the product! A heartfelt thank you is extended to all the amazing actors and cinematographer that made what was once an idea a reality in such a short time!
