New drummer collab unlocked with @dylan_sluiter - I have been working on a few riffs with a pretty specific goal where it flows all nice but secretly slices off bits during the MIDDLE of the riff rather than waiting for the end of the phrase to make it asymmetrical or mathy. . Hit a roadblock after conceptualizing this one because I had the proverbial snowball’s chance in hell at programming drums that would actually groove, so I just threw it at Dylan and a week later he sent me a tasteful and accessible part to record to (which was greatly appreciated because even playing to a raw click I couldn’t get it squared up in my head or under the hands). . So rather than like 4/4 + 7/8 with that little sensation of a ‘hitch’ at the end, each bit of melody or accompanying arpeggios just constantly fluctuate in length, BUT I hope it still sounds pretty and flows nice. Really you could divide this in any number of ways, I’ll post the sheet music with my version of groupings eventually, but for now here are some c#minor noodles that are “almost a bit like a palindrome-ish”, in Dylan’s assessment of it. . #pianocover #klavier #drums #acousticmusic #mathrock #modernfusion #composer #recording #yamaha #instrumental
