GOWL from Connecticut at Arsonfest 2012. A very special band that I had no idea existed until I saw them play this show. I got a chance to see them one other time in 2014. I bought one of their shirts at this Arsonfest show but I don't know what happened to it. It's a great memory to watch this footage back.

WAKE in 2012 at Negative Space. I've seen @wake.ca a handful of times now and they always put on a great show. This was my first time seeing them and I did not know what to expect. Very cool grind band with some super dark aspects that I like a lot. I barely remember what this show was like but I'm happy I was there to see it.

VIOLENT RESTITUTION at the second night of Arsonfest 2012. Easily in my top 5 grind sets that I will ever see in my life. I had no idea what this band would sound like when they went up and as soon as they started playing I was enthralled. I think I had a huge smile on my face the whole time I was recording this. When I went to my terrible retail job the next morning the memories of this specific set kept me going throughout the day. I am so thankful I got to see this. I never get tired of watching this footage.

BURNING GHATS at Arsonfest 2012, held at Negative Space. After trying unsuccessfully to make a documentary about Manitoba Metalfest in 2011, I realized I would rather just film bands than try to make movies with interviews and narratives and stuff like that. I really just wanted to film absolute chaos. So I packed up my 3 cameras at the time and made an effort to record every set at this year's Arsonfest. It was a great experience and I kept capturing this festival for the following two years, until the final edition in 2014. The sets I captured at these festivals are some of my best work ever, band wise. This festival had a very special energy and I miss it a lot. Thanks to everyone who put it on and all the bands who came here to play.

@napalmraid_official at Negative Space in 2012. I had recently gotten a better camera (but it was still a pretty basic camcorder) and I was excited to film as much as I could with it. It took me a couple of more years to start grasping more manual camera settings but I was having fun. This is a great band and I'm happy they are still going!

VIOLENT GORGE at Negative Space in 2012. In the final few weeks of high school I had my first time filming Violent Gorge as well as more importantly, my first time filming Joe Warkentin perform. For anyone into grind music I'm sure you are familiar with Joe's commitment to putting on a great show, every time, no matter what. This whole band was a blast to film but this really did set off an obsession with filming Joe over the years. He's probably my favourite performer I've ever gotten to film. Thank you Joe and Violent Gorge.

Wolbachia in 2012 at Negative Space. My growing obsession with blast beats and musical chaos continued. A true pleasure to record this. Watching @eyeandearcontrolrecords play has always been hypnotic. Happy to say I got to continue filming these musicians in bands like Head Hits Concrete, Inner Repulse and CO. And probably a few more. Thank you for playing these shows.

Moving into 2012, my final year in high school, I started going to one of the best winnipeg venues of the era, Negative Space.. I saw many great bands there. I had heard about AHNA from someone outside of a different show and I was intrigued by their name, but I didn't realize what I was in for when I saw them. The intensity and amount of noise and power created by these 2 people really effected me at the time, I felt like the music was taking me into another world that night. I'm so thankful I saw this when I did and also got to follow their progress over the years.

2011 was a special time for many reasons but one of them has to be the fact I got to film a short lived grindcore band in a basement with tuba accompaniment

In 2011 I somehow had the chance to film @theofficialnapalmdeath with my camcorder, I really didn't realize what I was getting into at the time or the magnitude of what I was seeing. I do think this was a very special time where basically anyone could just show up to these shows and bring a camera without it really being noticed. Not that that can't happen today but there was definitely a sense of freedom and anonymity that has become harder to feel over the years. Maybe it was because I was so young and trying to stay under the radar. This was a great show overall and had a big effect on my growing obsession with the genre. Thanks Napalm Death!
