When Ms. Kat first came to the Downtown Women's Center, she told us: "They didn't push me. They gave me directions...everything I needed to do, they assisted me with it. That was the best thing ever...the Downtown Women's Center in my life at that time became everything to me - became a friend, some place, somebody I could have to talk to. It really means a lot." This Mental Health Awareness Month, we are reminded that no one should have to navigate healing from trauma alone. At DWC's Trauma Recovery Center, nobody has to. Last year alone, DWC clinicians provided more than 2,400 mental health sessions, showing up for women and survivors through crisis, everyday challenges, and moments of real life-changing transformation. Yet, the resources that make this work possible are shrinking. Trauma Recovery Centers like ours are facing a 60% cut due to decreased state funding. We cannot afford to interrupt healing! Will you join us in ensuring that more women and survivors like Ms. Kat have access to trauma-informed care, safe housing, and a community that stays with them through every stage of healing? Visit bit.ly/DWCVillage or click the link in our bio to give a gift that heals. Then, share this post with someone who believes that healing is possible. Special thank you to @kieembaker and @safeandjust for providing the interview footage shared in this video. We are grateful for your partnership in the fight to end homelessness.

The revised version of the budget just came out, with no additional funding for HHAP (Homeless Housing, Assistance and Prevention). This funding supports services like permanent housing, rental assistance, move-in support, case management, and access centers like DWC’s Day Center. It’s not too late to secure the funding we need but we need your help! The State Senate has already proposed $1 billion in HHAP funding. Now, we’re calling on the State Assembly to match that investment and help ensure communities across California have the resources they need to address homelessness with compassion and stability.  Join us in urging your State Assemblymember to support sustained funding for housing and homelessness solutions. It only takes a few minutes to take action. Visit bit.ly/SupportHHAP or click the link in bio to make your voice heard today.  #FundHHAP #HousingJustice #EndHomelessness #CABudget #DWCAction

At DWC, we know healing takes more than a single service. It takes trust, consistency, safe housing, mental health care, community, and time. Through our Trauma Recovery Center and holistic model of care, we support women and survivors of violence as they heal, rebuild, and move forward on their own terms.   Ms. Kat, shared: “They didn’t push me. They gave me directions...everything I needed to do, they assisted me with it. That was the best thing ever...the Downtown Women’s Center in my life at that time became everything to me — became a friend, some place, somebody I could have to talk to. It really means a lot.”   This is the power of trauma-informed care. And this is why our work continues every day.   Visit bit.ly/DWCVillage to be part of someone’s healing journey or click the link in our bio to donate today!

Housing is on the line in this year’s state budget and we need your help to protect it! HHAP or Homeless Housing, Assistance and Prevention provides critical funding for long-term solutions that end homelessness. This includes permanent housing, rental and move-in assistance, case management, and other supportive services. The State Senate has already proposed $1 billion in HHAP funding and now we need the State Assembly to match it. Join us in urging your State Assemblymember to support this critical investment in homelessness solutions across California. Every email helps send a clear message: our communities need sustained funding for housing, services, and pathways to stability. It takes less than 5 minutes to make your voice heard today. Visit bit.ly/SupportHHAP to act now or click the link in bio! #FundHHAP #HousingJustice #EndHomelessness #CABudget #DWCAction

We are proud to share a powerful op-ed published this week, written by Antonia Kitto, a mental health clinician at DWC’s Trauma Recovery Center. From the frontlines of DWC’s Trauma Recovery Center, Antonia writes about what healing really takes: time, trust, and consistent care. Every day, she sees the possibilities that emerge when survivors are met with the support they deserve. “Change doesn’t happen overnight. But with patience, there are huge rewards for this work.” DWC’s dedicated staff have built a powerful community that supports people like Ms. Kat in finding a safe place to heal. Click the link in our bio or visit bit.ly/TRC_OpEd to read the full article.

Downtown Women’s Center really showed up yesterday in honor of Denim Day! We are so grateful for our partnership with Peace Over Violence that supports our Trauma Recovery Center. Events like these are such a great opportunity to come together in community. As Sexual Assault Awareness Month comes to an end we encourage everyone to be a safe space for survivors and support their healing journey. #UseYourVoice #enddv #supportsurvivors #believesurvivors #denimday
