An Orange Air Quality Alert due to ozone pollution has been issued for tomorrow, Tuesday, May 19. Sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and those with asthma or heart conditions, should take precautions.
Chris Mulroy, who works in DVRPC's Office of Transit, Bicycle, and Pedestrian Planning, “like[s] the independence biking provides - you're on your own schedule, and it's my favorite way to take in the sights and sounds of Philadelphia.”
Chris bikes most often on Spruce, Pine, and 11th Streets, along with an average of 290 bicyclists per day (based on our March 2026 Travel Monitoring Count). On those routes, he appreciates “the dedicated space and the number of other bikers, which makes me feel safer and more comfortable on the road.”

An Orange Air Quality Alert due to ozone pollution has been issued for today, Monday, May 18. Sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and those with asthma or heart conditions, should take precautions.
Cassidy Joyce, DVRPC’s Engagement Planning Intern, commutes by bicycle to work at Race Street and 7th Street, along with an average of 165 other cyclists per day, based on our most recent Travel Monitoring Count data (October 2025).
Cassidy says of riding their bike, “I love the autonomy [biking] gives me to move around the city; plus, I feel like it allows me to connect with my environment and community more than traveling by automobile.”

Have you ever wondered how many bikers share the road in your neighborhood? Thanks to DVRPC’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Count Programs, you can find out!
DVRPC counts bicyclists and pedestrians in the Greater Philadelphia region to better understand their travel and plan the future of the region’s active transportation network.
Our count programs allow planners to measure existing levels of bicycling and walking, monitor travel trends, plan for new or improved facilities, and measure outcomes of bicycle- and pedestrian-related projects.

Q: How did you end up at DVRPC?
A: After finishing grad school, I wanted to try living in a place where I could easily get around without a car. That certainly narrowed my list of potential cities! I’ve had a blast exploring Philly on bike and on foot. I am truly living the brand as a planner on the Transit, Bicycle, and Pedestrian team. It is also, by far, the best city I’ve lived in for spotting cats in people’s windows–an added bonus on my daily commute :)
