BOX SET CINEMA is back again with another 45th anniversary screening! This time we’re bringing a 16mm print of NIGHTHAWKS to the screen with urban tension, grit, and late-night danger unfolding against the glow of the city skyline. Eventbrite ticket link in bio! BOX SET CINEMA PRESENTS: NIGHTHAWKS (1981) ON 16MM FILM Step into the shadowy streets of early-’80s New York in this cold-blooded thriller starring Sylvester Stallone, Rutger Hauer, Billy Dee Williams, and Lindsay Wagner. When a sadistic international terrorist arrives in NYC, a pair of streetwise cops are pulled into a relentless manhunt that blurs the line between hunter and hunted. Stripped down, tense, and unglamorous, Nighthawks rejects spectacle for pure street-level grit - a city alive at all hours and danger around every corner. Rutger Hauer is ice-cold and calculating, while Sylvester Stallone trades heroics for something tougher and quieter. Shot on location in dirty and dangerous Manhattan, the film doubles as a time capsule of a city on edge. The screening takes place on the enclosed, heated rooftop bar of Greats of Craft LIC Warehouse, featuring sweeping views of the very same city the film takes place. Arrive early for the best seats, grab dinner and drinks, and catch a 16mm pre-show before the feature. This time we are starting at a later time, 8PM, as an ode to the city that never sleeps.

We're hosting a holiday party for the community! Come watch a movie and eat cookies! @spinningrealfilms @16mmcinema and me, @dvdboxset , are collaborating to launch a microcinema in Queens, and to get started we're organizing some pop-up events for the community! Our first public event ever is going to be a holiday extravaganza in the back of the newly reopened Shillelagh Tavern on December 21st. Join us for: -one 90s Christmas cult classic, an overnight trip on Christmas Eve gets treacherous with an amped up sleazy performance from one of the greats -followed by one 16mm film print of a beloved holiday horror flick... It's the one you most want it to be, I promise! -Holiday themed karaoke -A Secret Santa Media Swap, bring a DVD, Blu-ray, or VHS tape gift wrapped and trade for another! I will have lots of extras if you are a new collector. -Ugly Holiday Sweater contest -And lots of Christmas cookies and a few more surprises we're working on!!! I'm really excited to get back in the swing of things for the holiday season. We'd love to see you there.

We already have our 2026 block parties—aka the Community Cookouts, happening once each in June, July, and August—planned for next summer on @31staveopenstreet . @dvdboxset (aka Madeleine), former co-founder of Astoria Horror Club, will be curating the music and activations, while we focus on the food and our civic engagement and community work. If you don’t know Madeleine, you should. She’s been instrumental in executing our block parties since 2023—starting with the year we screened Jaws on @31staveopenstreet and gave out free BBQ ribs, chicken, and more. She’s also launching her own project after departing Astoria Horror Club, so give her a follow and check out her event at @shilltavern on Sunday, 10/21. We’ve got some fun ideas cooking for this summer. And while times are tough and the weather is cold, we’re really looking forward to these large-scale community events that thousands of neighbors have attended over the years—going all the way back to our first one in 2021 on @31staveopenstreet . We hope you are too. Happy holidays and merry Christmas (early), you filthy animals. We'll see you soon. Unless you buy a cooking class. Cause then we'll see you sooner.

I'm no longer involved in Astoria Horror Club, I am happy to talk to you about it if you want to reach out privately as I don't wish to discuss it publicly, but I'm excited to move on to a new project with new partners.

Projected Poltergeist on the street last night for hundreds of people. So proud of the work we've done and so grateful for those who helped!! The communal laugh at the end of this clip that echoes through the whole city block might be my favorite thing I've ever recorded...
