Back from a great week in the awesome town of Lockington, Vic. I worked with the legends at Lockington & District Business Centre to come up with the mural design based on feedback from the community. All the images are referenced from photos sent in by locals. Even though the Magpie was a bit controversial in such a footy loving town;) The mural was made possible by the customers who support the Community Bank - Elmore, Lockington & Rochester. A project from earlier this year at the Snobs Creek Hatchery for @fisheriesvic . Really honoured to work with these guys to paint 2 giant critically endangered Macquarie Perch on the new recovery centre. The team do amazing work and without these hatchery’s many of the species bred would be extinct in the wild. This was one of the most challenging projects I’ve painted; fish are so detailed and colourful, the surface was tuff but the hardest thing was painting the exact same image twice, definitely a bit of Groundhog Day insanity towards the end! Add in north/west facing walls, extreme heat, exploding gazebo’s and bushfire evacuations for extra fun;) But also an amazing time in a stunning location! Recent project up in beautiful Kiama. Featuring local endangered species: Illawarra zieria - Zieria granulata. Endemic to the Illawarra region, it is only found in the Shoalhaven and Kiama districts on the south coast of New South Wales. Classified as Endangered. Eastern Ground Parrot - Pezoporus wallicus. It is one of only four ground-dwelling parrots in the world. This reference photo taken at Budderoo National Park, Kiama by Ellie Summerhayes Listed as endangered in NSW. Eastern Bristlebird - Dasyornis brachypterus. In late 2021, it was estimated that there were only about 2,500 of the species left in the wild, existing in isolated populations in eastern New South Wales and southern Queensland. This reference photo taken at Barren Grounds Nature Reserve, Kiama by Brett Mezen Carrington Falls grevillea - Grevillea rivularis It is endemic to a restricted distribution within the Carrington Falls area of Budderoo National Park, Kiama. Classified as Critically Endangered. Back from an amazing trip to Skipton to paint the front of the local swimming pool. A great little town with heaps of history, art, nature and a strong community that brings it all together. There are also other awesome murals and sculptures in town by @jimmi_buscombe_artist @mike.makatron @conrad_bizjak and other local artists with more planned for the future. This mural features local species from the area; A Rose-breasted .Cockatoo (Galah) based on a photo by Trevor Hardaker, Golden Wattle, Sugar Glider based on a photo by Kurit Afshen, critically endangered Spiny Rice Flower that is found in the local Commons.
