“(…) María Renée Morales Lam’s work has long concerned itself with unseen forces and past dynamics that make themselves visible and palpable in moments of encounter and contact. The concept of the ecotone, which lends its name to this exhibition, describes regions of transition between ecological communities - including tidal areas, estuaries, and the riparian zones which mark the edges of rivers, streams, and lakes against the land. In each of these places, materials - and life itself - may flow and exchange in valuable ways.
Here, we are invited to the meeting point of the everyday world and an artspace in which Morales Lam’s principal medium, glass, toys with our perceptions of material properties. Her work has been influenced from the beginning by the interaction of energy and matter, and all the consequent phenomena arising therefrom.
Glassworking is also an art of crisis, in the sense that its practitioners face difficulty and danger, working under pressure of time as the material relentlessly cools and even the tools which shape the glass grow, eventually, too hot to handle.
Morales Lam’s recent experience as a factory glassworker deepens this awareness of the conditions and limitations within which this art is frequently practised, and the sense of glasswork itself as an ecotone where art, craft, and industrial production meet. (…)”

MEET KRISTEN DIEDERICH resident artist at Duplex
@kdiederichstudio
Kristen Diederich (b. 1994 Tallahassee, Florida) is a painter based in Portland, Oregon.
Diederich’s characteristic abstract painting style emerged during periods spent in coastal
Maine, Oregon and Europe. Reminiscent of 19th century compositions, her bright and layered
contemporary abstracts enter cinematic depths of field with an empathy for that which isn’t
human. Titles for Diederich’s paintings reveal her study of creative writing at Portland State
University, which are sourced from her ongoing poem document that spans the last ten years.
Diederich exhibited during Frieze week LA 2025 with Lobster Club gallery, hung a solo in
November 2024 at Chefas Projects in Portland, Oregon and recently opened Summer season
with a solo show at Carver Hill Gallery in Camden, Maine May 2025. Diederich has shown and
collected in Georgia, Washington State, Montana, New York City, Oregon, Maine and is
Internationally collected with works placed in Mexico City and Toronto, Canada.
”I am an abstract landscape painter whose poetry informs a unique artistic language influenced
by the natural world. During this residency, I’m interested in continuing to collaborate with
partner Devin Ludwig on crafting one of a kind floating style frames onsite for every piece
included in the culminating exhibition if parameters allow”.
