⭐️LIVE PERFORMANCE: uno spazio dove cinema, musica e sperimentazione audiovisiva si incontrano trasformando materiali d’archivio e found footage in esperienze immersive e contemporanee.
Tra gli appuntamenti del programma, Elvira — live performance di Silvia Cignoli e Federica Foglia — restituisce una presenza viva e contemporanea a Elvira Notari, pioniera del cinema.
Federica Foglia intreccia frammenti dei film di Notari con home movies, film orfani e materiali della propria ricerca visiva, mentre Silvia Cignoli accompagna dal vivo il flusso delle immagini con una partitura per chitarra elettrica, elettronica e voce.
Un dialogo intenso tra immagini e suono che attraversa memoria, perdita e sopravvivenza delle immagini nel tempo.

Over the last years, we have deeply exchanged with them around many of the themes that inhabit this work.
Sinan’s ney moves through the project like a living breath, ancient and present at once. Agnese returns with her electronic drums and rhythmic field recording textures.

A few nights ago, Postcards from Italy was featured on 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶 (𝗥𝗮𝗶 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝟯) in an episode curated by 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶 @london.colli
The journey behind the work – our train trip across Italy in 2022, collecting environmental sounds in the same places where those films were originally shot – shaped a new soundtrack, taking form both as an album and as part of the wider audiovisual experience.
As Chiara observed, this project has indeed strengthened the bond between our country of origin and the country that has been hosting us for many years.
Grateful for the attentive listening, and for giving space to our Postcards in one of the most curious and attentive radio programs in Italy.

In Amalfi, the outside is crowded, and restless, because of tourism filling every corner. Inside the cathedral, a different time unfolds: still, echoing and breathing.
Between these two conditions, our music searches for equilibrium between noise and listening, presence and excess.
During our journey we discovered that one of the archival images also portrayed nearby Atrani – a detail recognised by @focas89 . A great place that also inspired M.C. Escher.

🎞️ Un viaggio nell’Italia che fu, risuonato nel presente con il Duo Bottasso
Domenica 26 aprile alle 19:00, al PARC di Firenze arriva Postcards from Italy, il progetto audiovisivo immersivo dei fratelli Bottasso che intreccia immagini d’archivio e paesaggi sonori contemporanei.
Sul palco, Nicolò e Simone Bottasso guidano questo attraversamento tra epoche: rari film muti degli anni Venti, restaurati dall’Eye Filmmuseum di Amsterdam, prendono nuova vita grazie a suoni, voci e musiche raccolti lungo le stesse rotte dei cineasti di allora.
Una performance che unisce memoria e creazione, per riflettere sul dialogo tra passato e presente e sul valore della lentezza in un mondo che corre.

MEET THE ARTIST: DUO BOTTASSO
Duo Bottasso (IT) is an interdisciplinary music ensemble founded in 2007 by brothers Nicolò and Simone Bottasso. Based in Rotterdam, they create work at the intersection of Italian folk tradition, contemporary composition, audiovisual performance, and free improvisation.
Over nearly two decades, Duo Bottasso has developed an artistic practice rejecting genre boundaries, encompassing acoustic instrumentation (violin, tenor d’amore violin, diatonic accordion, trumpet), live electronics, video mapping, archival research and site-specific performance. Projects range from concert hall presentations to immersive installations, from cinema works to community collaborations.
At Nonagon Festival 2026, they will perform the audiovisual piece created together with Rickard Eklund during their Nonagon residency in 2025.
