Scientists have identified DRT7, a bacterial protein that appears capable of starting DNA synthesis without a traditional DNA template.
In a new study, researchers show that DRT7 can produce a first DNA strand through a protein-primed process, then use another domain to build the complementary strand. The study describes it as the first enzyme shown to perform this kind of template-independent first-strand synthesis followed by second-strand synthesis.

What if death were just a checkpoint? Cryonics exists at the edge of science and belief.
While hundreds of people have already chosen long-term cryonic preservation, the field remains hypothetical, with no proven revivals to date.
What’s being preserved isn’t life itself, but time, structure, and the possibility that future science may one day know more than we do now.

The words we use at work are always catching up to the world we live in.
When generations sound different, they are reflecting different tools, pressures, and assumptions about how work should happen. And as more generations work side by side, communication may become one of the clearest signals of where the future of work is heading.

Which one are you?
Reading fiction isn’t just a hobby, research shows that readers of novels outperform others in social cognition, develop stronger empathy, and experience stories almost as if they were real life, and these effects are measurable and backed by neuroscience.
Share this with someone who loves reading and show them that novels are quite literally life-changing.

Astronomical events are often described as brief and explosive. This one refuses that rhythm.
First observed in 2018 and studied again years later, a known supermassive black hole is still increasing in power after tearing apart a star. The behaviour challenges assumptions about how long these systems remain active and how energy moves through galaxies over time.
Some of the most extreme processes in the universe may not be sudden at all, but prolonged, patient, and still unfinished.

If your body could tell you exactly what it needs, would you still eat the same way?
For too long, nutrition has been standardised, but biology isn’t standard. As personalised systems emerge, nutrition may become something tailored to us in real time.

This is not the work of science fiction; it’s what scientists are building right now!
These unbelievable breakthroughs are proof that science is moving faster than we think… And this is only the beginning.
