✨17✨ I can’t believe I have a whole 17 yo. My little boy is becoming an amazing young man, and I become prouder everyday. Being a single Mom wasn’t easy but because of the love, guidance, and support he’s received from extended family, his future is bright. I’ll forever be grateful for the village that loves my little boy.🩵

✨Hey Mama🄹 One of my best childhood memories is watching Lifetime movies with my Mom. I probably watched things I had no business watching at that age, but I loved bonding with her in those moments. It was a passion she and I shared, and through it she taught me empathy, compassion, and love. I never would’ve imagined that one day I would literally be working on Lifetime movie sets. Since she passed I’ve had the privilege of working on two more—one starting just a week after. Every time I step onto set, I think of her… and I just hope I’ve made her proud.šŸ•ŠļøšŸ¤ P.S. My car made it in the movie and I may or may not have made a little cameo as well.šŸ˜‰

Mom, the Mom I was given when I didn’t have one. The Mom who chose to be a Mom when it wasn’t possible the natural way. At 59, she not only adopted Nikki and me, but she fought for the right to do so, despite her age. Even when we butt heads growing up, I think we both knew it was because I was so much like her. My big heart, compassion, love for kids, and unwavering generosity all came from her, even when I didn’t. Even in my own infertility she comforted me in ways no one else could. I will miss watching your favorite shows (Touched by an Angel, Any Day Now, and General Hospital, just to name a few) curled up with you on your bed. Every Lifetime movie I watch and even the ones I have had the pleasure working on, will remind me of you. For over 40 years and over 100 foster/adopted children later, she never let anything stand in the way of being a Mother to a child in need. I remember DYFS calling in the middle of the night, desperate to find a baby a home, and even with a full house, she never turned them away regardless of their shape, size or color. I remember being up with her, bathing a baby who came in dirty, shoeless, with bruises on their body. She swooped in without hesitation, ready to show them unconditional love and affection. It showed me how to love without borders. It showed me how to be a Mom. The only person I had in the room with me when I became one. My little boy loves his grandma, and we will never forget you. I’m sorry I was so far away and couldn’t say goodbye.😢 I know she has joined my Dad, and they are at peace together again.šŸ’”

Growing up raising youā€¦šŸ’™ Literally. I was still growing up when I became a mom. My entire adult life has been dedicated to being the best one I could be. We’ve been through everything together. The good times and the bad. The happy times and the sad. Every accomplishment and every heartbreak. Wiping each other’s tears.🄹 • We’ve come a long way and I’m grateful we’ve made it this far, all in one piece. A single mother at that. There were times when I’ve only had enough money to get him two slices of pizza for dinner and my dinner was the crust he refused to eat. We always found a way to make it work tho, I even worked at the daycare he went to til kindergarten.šŸ‘©šŸ½ā€šŸ¼ • I’m grateful that even tho it was my birthday, but you’re a mom and school starts next week, I was able to take my little boy shopping. The biggest gift I’ve ever received was being able to give him more than I’ve ever had and him receiving the love I never did.🄺 ā€œThrough the knee scrapes, the heartbreaks, and learnin’ the hard way. We’re both gonna turn out okay.ā€šŸŽ¶ The best thing that I’ll ever do will be growing up raising youā€¦šŸ’™

Your smile brightens up even my darkest days.šŸ”† (And y’all know how hard it is to get a teenage Shawnie to smile😭) • I drove 14 hours straight from ATL to Jersey and just made it to my little boys graduation by minutes. To see his face light up and his confidence skyrocket once I arrived, I’d drive 14 more.šŸŽ #mysonshine

I don’t mean to brag butā€¦ā›¹šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ€šŸŽ– • My little boy has come a long way and keeps worked harder everyday. He plays on two teams and he’s always one of the best players no matter where he plays.🌟 • A basketball was put into his hands at age 6 and he hasn’t put it down since.🤩 #14 is 14šŸ˜
