āØHey Mamaš„¹
One of my best childhood memories is watching Lifetime movies with my Mom. I probably watched things I had no business watching at that age, but I loved bonding with her in those moments. It was a passion she and I shared, and through it she taught me empathy, compassion, and love. I never wouldāve imagined that one day I would literally be working on Lifetime movie sets. Since she passed Iāve had the privilege of working on two moreāone starting just a week after. Every time I step onto set, I think of her⦠and I just hope Iāve made her proud.šļøš¤
P.S. My car made it in the movie and I may or may not have made a little cameo as well.š
Mom, the Mom I was given when I didnāt have one. The Mom who chose to be a Mom when it wasnāt possible the natural way. At 59, she not only adopted Nikki and me, but she fought for the right to do so, despite her age.
Even when we butt heads growing up, I think we both knew it was because I was so much like her. My big heart, compassion, love for kids, and unwavering generosity all came from her, even when I didnāt. Even in my own infertility she comforted me in ways no one else could.
I will miss watching your favorite shows (Touched by an Angel, Any Day Now, and General Hospital, just to name a few) curled up with you on your bed. Every Lifetime movie I watch and even the ones I have had the pleasure working on, will remind me of you.
For over 40 years and over 100 foster/adopted children later, she never let anything stand in the way of being a Mother to a child in need. I remember DYFS calling in the middle of the night, desperate to find a baby a home, and even with a full house, she never turned them away regardless of their shape, size or color. I remember being up with her, bathing a baby who came in dirty, shoeless, with bruises on their body. She swooped in without hesitation, ready to show them unconditional love and affection. It showed me how to love without borders. It showed me how to be a Mom. The only person I had in the room with me when I became one. My little boy loves his grandma, and we will never forget you. Iām sorry I was so far away and couldnāt say goodbye.š¢
I know she has joined my Dad, and they are at peace together again.š

Your smile brightens up even my darkest days.š
(And yāall know how hard it is to get a teenage Shawnie to smileš)
⢠I drove 14 hours straight from ATL to Jersey and just made it to my little boys graduation by minutes. To see his face light up and his confidence skyrocket once I arrived, Iād drive 14 more.š
