SHE GOT THE JOB Y'ALL!!! I met Shavon Harris at RenderATL & she shared a tip on how she landed her first job in tech recently!
We spoke for a bit and her energy was amazing, so I had to ask if she would record a quick video with me! She even wrote a blog post to add more context!
Drop a like and Make sure y'all show her some love! The link to the blog post is here:

I spent over a decade working in gas stations frying chicken, ringing up customers and providing for my family.
It was a tough schedule. Working crazy hours, multiple locations and 7 days a week but I did it.
Learning to code literally changed my career and life. This is why I am so focused on trying to help others because I know how hard the path is and love seeing others change their circumstances as well!

I JUST SPEAK TO EDIT MY SLIDES! Practicing my tech talks just got a massive system upgrade. 🧠👇
The biggest friction point of presentation prep is having to stop pacing, walk to your laptop, and manually fix slides. So I engineered a hands-free orchestration engine that merges the Google Slides API with OpenAI’s new Realtime WebRTC architecture.
The Trap most devs fall into: If you try to build a real-time voice app using basic HTTP polling, your latency makes the conversation unusable. Even worse? If you throw all your audio streams and WebRTC handshakes into a React "God Component," every UI re-render severs your audio connection.
The Architecture Fix:
1️⃣ WebRTC Data Channels – I enforce sub-50ms latency by dropping WebSockets and streaming audio over native tracks with oai-events data channels.
2️⃣ Strict Decoupling – The WebRTC lifecycle, tool registry, and token management are isolated into 5 strict custom hooks. The UI is just a thin orchestrator. You can change the frontend without breaking the SDP handshake.
3️⃣ Ephemeral Tokens – To protect the API key, we mint short-lived client_secret tokens via Next.js Server Actions. The master key never touches the browser.
Stop building for the IDE, start building for the architecture. The entire repository is open source on my GitHub. Go break it. 🫡

What a weekend to remember ☕⚡
We had the incredible opportunity to fuel innovation at the Commit Your Code Conference hosted at Yum! Headquarters in Plano, TX. A high-energy, two-day tech event that brought together hundreds of brilliant minds from across the industry.
Over the course of the conference, The Bean Guys served more than 500–600 guests, keeping developers, innovators, and executives energized, smiling, and locked in with every handcrafted drink. From fresh espresso shots to our signature lattes and globally inspired flavors, we kept the ideas flowing and the vibe electric.
We’re proud to partner with corporate clients, conferences, and large-scale activations that value both excellence and experience, creating moments that connect people and leave a lasting impression. Whether it’s a boardroom brainstorm or a 600-person summit, we bring the same level of craftsmanship, creativity, and care to every event. No matter the size of your crowd, we at The Bean Guys have you covered!
Here’s to more innovation, collaboration, and coffee-driven conversations ahead. ☕💼
Wow. I'm still trying to process the last few days as my timeline continues to be flooded with posts from Commit Your Code.
To be honest, I'm feeling pretty emotional about it all.
When I started CYC I had a vision I just couldn't shake with a shoestring budget, hoping to create something special for the Dallas tech community. You pour your heart and soul into a thing, hoping it works, hoping people connect with it. But you never truly know until it happens.
And then... it happens.
The thing you built takes on a life of its own.
- I have executives message me, not with feedback, but with pure excitement.
- Managers telling me how deeply impressed they were with the ambition and talent of the junior devs they met.
- DevRel pros, who have seen it all, told me they witnessed things at CYC for the very first time.
- We even have sponsors already asking about CYC26 when I don't even know if there will be A CYC26!
But of all the incredible feedback, one comment has appeared time and time again, and it’s the one that hits me right in the chest: "This is a conference for the people."
I couldn't have said it better myself. That was the goal. That was the dream. To create a space that wasn't about exclusivity or rockstars, but about connection, learning, and genuine community. A place for all of y'all!
Seeing the speakers, the volunteers, the sponsors, and every single attendee just bring that dream to life is a feeling I can only describe as being a proud tech papa. Watching this community flourish is the greatest reward.
We had a speaker have their Dad come and see them speak in person who drove 5 hours to see it 🥹
I don't have words y'all.
Here are some numbers:
- We had 860 In-person.
- We had over 8,000 virtual attendees which is just absolutely WILD to me.
- We had 3 in person external events AND 3 virtual ones for online attendees! 🤯
Thank you for making CYC what it was. Y'all are the magic and I am just completely amazed right now.
Last week was The Commit Your Code Conference and it was PACKED at 8am! 🥹 The morning connect was a huge hit with everyone. Tons of conversations and people making connections. We had top executives to brand new software developers. The whole community showed up! #CYC25 was a huge success! 🙌

It's been a busy week but I put on a tech conference for software developers called "The Commit Your Code Conference" where we donate 100% of all ticket sales to charity and we had over 800 people show up in person! It was an amazing time for our second year! I have a ton to post and catch up on but here is a small clip before we did the closing keynote on day 2!
All of the technical talks are recorded and online for free as well.

WE WROTE A BOOK! I promised you big news today and I'm here to deliver! I'm curious, have you found yourself in this position lately?
You're a software developer, you love building things, but you see the AI wave coming. You know you need to adapt, but every resource you find seems to think you want to become a data scientist.
It’s a frustrating place to be. You just want to use the best tools to do your job, not switch careers. You want to solve problems and build stuff, not create a proprietary, low-latency natural language processing engine from scratch.
After having dozens of conversations with developers feeling this exact way, we understood the pain points and we, Jerry Mannel Reghunadh and Jacob Orshalick, decided to create the resource we couldn't find.
We wrote a book that respects your role as a Software Developer, teaches REAL business ready concepts, and gives you a direct path to applying AI concepts to your work so you can make an impact.
We were honored to have it published by No Starch Press, a name many of us in tech trust.
If you're a software developer who wants to stay on the cutting edge without leaving your craft behind, this was written for you. Learn these concepts so you can get back to doing the thing WE all love, building!

“You made the coffee?” Cool. But why is that a bullet point on your resume?!?! ☕️
Let me explain.
If you're a coffee barista, we naturally assume you make coffee. When I think about your role, there are parts of your job that I just ASSUME are basic duties associated with that role. You don’t need to spell out the obvious.
So why do software developers feel the need to say things like:
➡️ Wrote code
➡️ Participated in code reviews
➡️ Maintained the application
These are the bare minimum expectations of the job. Why are we talking about this instead of talking about the actual impact that you had within that role? The wins help you win in an interview, in a conversation, or when showcasing your abilities.
If you’re in a software engineering role, of course, you did those things. It’s like a barista saying, “I poured the coffee into a cup.”
Instead of wasting valuable space on the obvious parts of your role, highlight the impact you had:
✅ Did you refactor legacy code and boost performance?
✅ Did you implement a newsletter feature that captured a 30% increase in new readers?
✅ Did you lead an initiative that improved dev workflow or onboarding?
Don’t list what you were hired to do. Show what made you VALUABLE.
That’s what gets callbacks.
That’s what leads to interviews.
Stop pointing out the obvious.
Start showcasing the difference you made.
Hope this helps!
