This film has went through many changes and phases since its premiere in December of 2024. It’s a project that merges some of Dakari’s real-life struggles with his real-life passion for genre filmmaking, and we’re excited to finally share the definitive version!

Christmas, 2019.
My mother, @i_am_donnareakica , took this picture of me (first slide) happily wielding a copy of one of my (at the time) newly appreciated albums. That album was D’Angelo’s “Voodoo”.
Of course, it didn’t help that I was already in a HUGE Soulquarian phase up to this point (those that know KNOW). I specifically had Common, Mos Def, Erykah Badu, J Dilla, and D’Angelo in my rotation. However, I always found myself consistently going back to D’Angelo’s music.
To say this man’s music changed my life plus shifted my perspective as a young man/musician feels like a complete understatement. He was an undeniable prodigy and one of the absolute key progenitors of neo-soul. He was transparent, yet technical. He was religious, yet rebellious. He was serious, yet soulful.
The news of his passing is heartbreaking to say the least. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family (and especially to his son). We are losing our giants left and right. May his soul rest in peace. 🙏🏾🕊️

Graduated in December, but I had to come back to see my people and walk that stage.

When I was applying for college, Benedict was never on my mind or radar. Then, I was given my first networking lesson: quality over quantity.
To the BCBOD: Your trust and guidance cannot be undermined or undervalued. Thank you for contributing to the molding of an ever-growing leader. 💜💛🎷
To Men of Definition: I am beyond appreciative of the open-armed leadership and the chivalrous integrity that has influenced me to this very day. 🟣⚫️
To the Mu Rho Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi: You’ve instilled so much confidence, knowledge, faith, and wisdom into this young man and I will always be forever grateful. #AEA to the GOOD bruhz‼️🤟🏾
Lastly, to the Mass Communication department: For being that stepping stone I needed to understand the ins and outs of the entertainment industry, I am indebted.
To say that this has been a journey is an understatement. I’ll forever cherish the memories and experiences I’ve had while attending Benedict College…the college that DEFINITELY puts the BC in HBCU.
