Chanel has always been the latter. In over a century, only four people have held its creative direction. That is not a statistic. That is a statement of how seriously this house takes itself, and how carefully it moves. When @matthieu_blazy Blazy walked out at the Grand Palais last October, in jeans and a t-shirt, to a standing ovation, something shifted. His first collection for Spring/Summer 2026 did not attempt to erase what came before. It went further back, all the way to Gabrielle herself: the shirts she borrowed from her lovers, the tweed she wore on her own terms, the bag left open because she had a life to live and no time for fuss. That is the thing about Chanel at its best. It was never really about clothes. It was about the kind of person who knew exactly who they were, and dressed accordingly. Blazy understood that.
