Or study drums at a deep level with someone of the greatest working musicians here in Berlin? 🤔 We have a couple places still available on our ‘Weekend Pro Training’ course starting January 2024! 🥁 Run by Dirk Erchinger (Apache 207, Count Basic, Jazzkantine), we bring the best drummers in Berlin together to share their insight into the styles, technique, skills and the all-round attitude that a drummer needs to become pro. Over two years, you’ll spend one weekend every two months in our teaching room surrounded by drummers diving deep into songs, styles, technique, iconic drum parts and learning about the instrument we love. It is perfect for those who don’t live in Berlin or have a really busy schedule and also want to go deeper into drumming from a range of working professionals here in Berlin. We kicked things off with the incredible Richard Spaven — deep grooves, creative beat design, Triplet Hip-Hop concepts, and even the proper way to brew tea 😉 Absolute masterclass! Next up, Diego Piñera from Uruguay brought serious Latin fire with his workshop on odd meters, Afro-Cuban music, and drum independence — challenging, inspiring, and full of energy. After moving venues, Jamiroquai drummer Derrick McKenzie gave an amazing masterclass on Disco, Soul, groove, and musicality. Stories, pocket, dancing, and massive groove vibes all day long ❤️ Later, Dirk and bassist Björn Werra got everybody playing together with grooves of Kool & the Gang — pure fun and community energy! We closed the night with the super funny Berlin Drum Days Game Show hosted by Luis Matiello 🏆 and an explosive live performance by Renato Lellis & Treeghoul 🇧🇷🔥 Man… what a day. Day 2 of the Berlin Drum Days started with an early morning shock: British Airways cancelled Richard Spaven’s flight to Berlin. Dirk spent most of the day between workshop announcements and small talks trying to rebook flights, organize transport for an upcoming Drumtrainer marching band show in Paris, and deal with BA about the cancelled flight. So we had to reschedule the day and asked Drumtrainer’s finest Stephan Genze to step in for Richard with a masterclass — and he absolutely delivered! A brilliant workshop on intuitive groupings in fills and grooves, backed by his son Luca Genze on bass. Thank you Stephan & Luca! Before that, Renato Lellis from Brazil warmed everybody up with a powerful Samba workout, and later Martina Barakoska inspired everyone with her masterclass about the skills she learned through social media and how they translate into real life — improvisation and capturing your own sound. We closed the night with a short 30-minute set by Dirk and a jam session featuring 10 participants together with Sons of the Preacherman: Robert Kessler on hybrid bass/guitar and Björn Frank on tenor sax and bass clarinet. A perfect way for Dirk to blow off some steam after an extremely stressful day of constant screen time — it’s so great to have this instrument ;-) Big thanks to all participants and the amazing audience for the warm energy. Now on to Day 3!

What an amazing kickoff to our Berlin Drum Days 2026 yesterday! 🥁❤️ This year, drummers and music lovers traveled from all over the world to be part of it — from Scotland, Slovenia, Poland, Italy, Austria, North & South America, and of course from all across Germany. We are beyond thankful for every single one of you! Chief trainer Dirk welcomed everyone and opened the festival with a short warm-up before Germany’s finest, Jost Nickel, took over with an incredible masterclass, followed by a stunning performance and groove training session with participants. We closed Day 1 with a huge and super fun drum circle together with all participants — pure energy, groove, and community! Dirk’s practice throwback from Austria last winter 🎥🥁 Quick tip from the shed at Drumtrainer Berlin: Record yourself. Always. Even if it’s just 30 seconds. When Dirk practices, he makes it a habit – because when we play, we’re in player mode, not listener mode. On video, you suddenly hear your sound, your dynamics, your time. And you SEE your posture and technique. Things you’ll never catch in real time. You don’t have to document a whole 3-hour session. Grab moments. Then actually sit down and study them. That’s where the growth happens. It’s one of the core habits we teach our students here at Drumtrainer.
