The Tragically Hip didn’t just write songs—they wrote the soundtrack to being Canadian.
Road Apples on a highway at midnight. Fully Completely rattling the walls of every bar from Victoria to St. John’s. Music that gets into your bones and never leaves.
On June 27, that music comes alive at the Napier Theatre in Drumheller.
Ahead by a Century isn’t your average cover band. These Edmonton-based musicians have put in the work to honour The Hip the right way—capturing the tone, the arrangements, and the raw stage presence that made Gord Downie and the band unforgettable. In a venue as intimate as the Napier, you’re not just watching a tribute… you’re part of it.
This is a night for anyone who’s ever turned up the volume and felt something.

In the early 1900s, as the C. P. R. expanded and opened new tracks of land, Canadian officials were pursuing hardy farmers to cultivate the vast plains. Scandinavians were considered to be particularly desirable homesteaders, and efforts were made to promote their migration.
The Danish organization Folkesamfund purchased a large portion of land to be settled exclusively by Danes, intent on preserving their language, values, and culture. They named this new community Dalum, a tribute to the renowned Agricultural School of that name in Denmark.
Life on the prairies wasn’t easy for these pioneers. They traded Denmark’s garden land for open grasslands and harsh seasons, commuting through the countryside by horseback, wagon, or on foot. They endured bitter winters, drought, and isolation—but their perseverance held fast.
Within this close-knit hamlet, the Danish spirit thrived. Community clubs, church socials, dances, and long winter gatherings kept their traditions alive, and at the centre of it all was a shared table—a place for laughter, singing, and the taste of home. Akvavit, the spiced spirit of Scandinavia, became a comforting symbol of their culture. When they raised their glasses and said “Skål”, it was more than just a toast, it was a time-honoured cheer rooted in friendship, resilience, and the enduring pride of their heritage.
Dalum Taffel Akvavit , 44% ABV
Nose: Fresh dill, Earthy spices, Grapefruit
Body: Green herbs, Bright citrus, Liquorice candy, Glacial water
Finish: Cinnamon, Dill, Caraway
Pairings: Whitefish, Wild game meat, (particularly venison or caribou) or matured cheeses.
Best enjoyed chilled and neat or in classic cocktails as a tequila or vodka substitute. Skål!
