One Year-No Booze -Down 15 Pounds -Anxiety levels plummeted -Angry outbursts vaporized -Bags under eyes deflated -Sleep quality out of this world -Night sweats dried -Inflammation when exercising mostly eliminated -Bloated face deflated -Dry skin hydrated -Shaky leg calmed -General sense of calm and well-being is through the roof There are countless people who influenced, encouraged, motivated and supported along the way. They will not be tagged, but you know who you are. I did this for me, which is for my 4 ladies who I share my life with. Yeah, the dog gets included too. If you wanna give it a try, reach out. If it’s not for you, cool. If you think it’ll be hard and you won’t succeed, that’s enough reason right there to try. Most of the things worth doing aren’t easy, but are very attainable with some work and support. One of the best decisions of my life. I feel great.

Ever wonder why I always have that big, dumb smile on my face while I play? Because doing this absolutely rules. Friday night, I got to play a sold-out show in San Francisco with these three guys. The most pivotal moment in my life was answering a “Drummer Wanted” ad in the back of the SF Bay Guardian in 1996 and meeting Ryan, Rory, and John. That moment changed everything. It led to a life of music, friendship, and experiences I never could have imagined: • I met my wife, Leigh, in Columbus, OH while on tour. • The Phoenix crew. • Friends from the Gilman scene and The Barn. • The incredible people who put out our records, wrote about us, and supported us along the way. • I’ve been to 49 of 50 states and played in most of them. • I’ve toured Europe and the UK. And on and on… Last night was something truly special. I played for my wife, my brother and his family, my oldest and best friends, friends from my youngest daughter’s preschool, old bandmates, bands I grew up watching at Gilman (hello, Samiam), and people I know from all over the world because of this band. A massive thank you to: -Lynn and her crew at Bottom of the Hill. -Skylar for crushing it on sound. -Danthrax for keeping the stage in check. -Cory for slinging merch and listening to everyone’s stories. -Strangelight and The Sunset Shipwrecks for sharing the night with us. -And most of all, the fans who have supported us for over 30 years. I’m humbled and over the moon. Let’s go to Montreal in May. @ledogboy @johnkpeck @drumber @danthrax @c.o.r.y_ @bottomofthehillsf @skylarsuorez @drumsknzz @kickblock.drums @strangelight_ @sunsetshipwrecks @alansnodgrassphoto #AmericanSteel #AmSteel #LiveMusic #PunkRock #Drums #Drumming #Guitar #Bass #BottomOfTheHill #SanFrancisco

After many (MANY!) years, my bands first album is available again on vinyl and CD. Also available on basically every streaming platform you could dream of, or I could have ever dreamt of. Many of you who listen to this will be like, “holy shit, THAT’S what his band sounds like”. Well, not really anymore, but this album along with Ryan and Rory’s songwriting and our relentless touring changed my life. When I heard the demo for these songs in 1997 before I joined the band it gave me goosebumps. Tony Sly said, “you’d be stupid to not join this band”. It was really good. We tracked these songs at Roof Brothers in Oakland with Kevin Army engineering/producing/teaching (throwing water bottles at Rory). We did all 17 songs in a day and a half, including setup. The whole album took maybe 3 days start to finish, including mixing, setup and tear down. It was poorly mastered my Andy Ernst in Hayward. Remastered, ever so slightly, by Amar Lal: Macro Sound in Oakland. New cover design and layout, and basically all of our art for the last 25 years: Mike Buchmiller at Hand Carved Graphics. Pestering, financing, sarcasm we only understand 50% of the time: Toby Jegg at Red Scare. Booking and late night texts: Toby Jegg at Atomic Music Group. @redscaretoby @handcarvedgraphics @atomicmusicgroup @kevinarmy99 @the_american_steel

Hello friends, It’s been a long time since my band has released any music. Today we’re releasing the first single from the re-issue of our very first record that we released in 1998. Most of you haven’t heard any of these old songs, but I know almost all of you haven’t ever heard the acoustic B-Side of the song Long Day. We just recorded it last month and are excited for everyone to hear a calmer version of this record. This is available now on all platforms, so please save/favorite/like/love and most importantly SHARE! Link in bio Thanks for all of the support over these last 30 years. Much love SH

While I’m gloating about my band releasing a single of a 30 year old song, I’d like to take a second to appreciate my oldest daughter and her schools chorus. They performed the anthem in front of 25k people at the home opener for the @orlandocitysc and crushed it. And a huge shoutout to Mr Pennfield, their musical director, for not only conducting for the kids but also cueing the crowd participation and the fireworks. Listen to the crowd, the fireworks and those kids!

We were gonna sneak out a couple American Steel tracks for ya, but those kids from @Riot_Fest (best known for "Riot Fest Sucks" and other sacred proverbs) hijacked our PR blitz and leaked a lyric video.  "Long Day (Acoustic)" is a bonus B-side to the "Rotting" single, and both jams are online this Friday.  Originally from 1998, their 17-song self-titled LP is out March 20th, and you can pick up a record at these shows: 3/18 - Sacramento, CA @ Old Ironsides 3/20 - Los Angeles, CA @ The Sardine 3/21 - San Francisco, CA @ Bottom of the Hill #AmericanSteel #RedScare #RiotFest #LookoutRecords #FatWreckChords

After hassling @the_American_Steel for two decades, it is with great relief that we can finally announce the re-issue of their self-titled debut album on Red Scare.  Out March 20th!  The texts, calls, and emails have paid off and the squeaky wheel is gettin' the grease.  AmSteel are absolute legends in our eyes, and this first LP of theirs oozes that Gilman spirit of bands like Operation Ivy and Crimpshrine. You'll know what we mean when you hear it next month (ahem, L!NK IN BIO), and if you're a proper Steelhead, you'll pick up a copy at one of their upcoming shows: 3/18 - Sacramento, CA @ Old Ironsides 3/20 - Los Angeles, CA @ The Sardine 3/21 - San Francisco, CA @ Bottom of the Hill If you've read this far, you should also know that we will have something *NEW* for you (🤫) between now and March 20th, so prepare for inevitable elation... #AmericanSteel #LookoutRecords #PunkRock #FatWreckChords #924Gilman Live shot: @AlanSnodgrassPhoto Poster art: @HandcarvedGraphics

Heading out on our first tour, July 1998. We spent the night in Santa Cruz and decided to leave the following evening to avoid the heat of the drive through California’s Central Valley on our way to Las Vegas. If only we had known the heat we would face in the South in the weeks ahead. Ryan and Scott, both in the center, wandered around Santa Cruz and got a little too much sun. John, on the left, sat on the porch of our host’s house reading and writing, as he did then and still does to this day. Rory, on the right, slept until 4 pm and was ready to roll. We were out for 32 days and drove more than 12,000 miles. Our DIY tour routing was wild, with some truly chaotic back and forth shows. We were touring on our first 7”, selling it for three dollars. We also had homemade shirts in Large and XL, bought at Costco and printed in Ryan’s mom’s backyard. We even brought the screen along so we could make more as we sold through them. On our days off, we wrote songs for our next record, using friends’ basements and DIY venues as our rehearsal spaces. We learned a lifetime of lessons on that first tour. We fought and loved each other like brothers. We made countless friends who are still in our lives today. Most of all, we did something nobody thought we could pull off and had the time of our lives. No cell phones. No digital maps. No social media. Just a road atlas and barely enough money for gas to get to the next city, sometimes. Photo Scan and Edit by: Mike Buchmiller @handcarvedgraphics
