Working with Smif n Wessun for 30+ years granted me the privilege to witness not just their full career, but to share experiences, laughter, tears, and moments that define who they are. Itās been an honor to see them evolve, grow, and face challenges with resilience, all while holding onto the core of their being that drew me in as a fan from the start. As we celebrate the remarkable 30 year anniversary of both their debut album āDah Shininā and Duck Down as an enterprise, Iām thankful for the countless memories weāve shared - from heartfelt conversations, wins on the board, and tough times weāve managed to navigate. Had courtside seats to observe Tek & Steeleās unmatched chemistry in the studio, on the stage and in life. Their relationship is beyond a friendship; itās a bond built on trust, understanding, and unwavering support, a connection that has stood the test of time. Thatās the meaning I take from PNC tatted on their arms.
30 years later, seasoned and as skilled as ever they continue to enrich our lives with the music they contribute. Their new album āInfinityā is out now, worth the listen. ā¾ļøš«”
āIt was all a Dreamā The Notorious B.I.G.
Rob Stone set me up w/ my 1st job which was the catalyst in my career 2 becoming a manager & label owner. Ā A few yrs later he launched Cornerstone & The Fader, & w/ both of us living in the city our biz & personal relationships flourished. Ā Heād eventually bring me into the CS family, assigning me an office next 2 his.Ā
In meetings w/ Rob I had a front row seat 2 observe & learn. I recall his charm as he met w/ Artists & DJās seeking his promotional expertise or w/ clients 2 pitch biz, brainstorm ideas; innovative, he pushed boundaries. I admired his unselfishness towards people. Status or position didnāt matter; Rob made time. Ā Equally impressive, Robās ability 2 listen & then give practical advice, he was part teacher, part life coach.Ā
We met for lunches & dinners; Rob almost always treated. He landed reservations at spots & took me to events that I would never have gotten into w/out Ā him. Ā We traveled on biz trips, vacationed to Islands, skied out West. Summers spent at his home in Sag Harbor; his door was open for my family & his wide range of friends. Ā He connected people, they became my friends. Ā He was inclusive, generous & welcoming beyond comprehension.Ā
Rob could be tough. Tough to beat at chess, or ping pong, or a game of horse, I surely never did. Ā Tough to negotiate deals with, tough to win an argument w/ & if u were skilled enough to do so, tough to get him to admit he was wrong. Ā He was tough to outdo, follow meā¦. we were both late 2 become fathers. Ā At 45 I had my son who Ā I named Harvin, in honor of my late father Harvey Friedman, w/ an ode 2 the legend Percy Harvin, a WR on my fav team the MN Vikings. Ā 6 months later Rob 1 upās me, having not 1, but 2 boys; naming 1 Charlie in honor of his late father & hero Charles Stone & the other Jett after the whole damn team.
Of all his accomplishments, I know none were held w/ greater pride than his love & admiration for his twin boys, daughter Mika to follow, & his wife Lauren. He set the gold standard for what it means to look out for family & friends. Was always family 1st.

Remarkable to witness your patience, kindness and unparalleled selflessness with your family, friends or anyone in need of a dance partner.
Continue to bring that positive, lively, radiant energy even when all I can sometimes do is shake my head. š¤¦āāļøšā¤ļø
