We are starting a new feature over here - sharing some of our favourite accounts! On average there are 150 deaths a MONTH in BC to drug poisoning, an absolutely devastating statistic. Overdose awareness day is the last day of August every year. While it is a day to honour those lost , it is also a day get informed and to support organizations on the front lines. For our first Follow Friday, we are sharing some accounts that inspire us! Give them a follow and share your favourite harm reduction accounts below!

NOTHING TO SEE HERE!!!! 📢 But you should absolutely go read the recent piece by @drugdatadecoded ⬇️⬇️⬇️ "As the Auditor General ramps up scrutiny of Alberta government procurement practices, the Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction is quietly shelving a project in development since 2021. The app, My Recovery Plan (MRP) collects personal health data of people in substance use recovery programs through questionnaires that track a person's 'recovery capital' as they progress through the system On August 12, the ministry informed service providers that MRP decommissioning will begin in 2026. The app is owned by BC-based Last Door Recovery Society and was launched through sole-source contracts totaling nearly $2 million in 2021-22. The ministry's emails insinuate that MRP generates inaccurate data on recovery program wait-lists, creates undue hardship for service providers, and that its questionnaire is too long, complicated, culturally inappropriate and "triggering" for some users, due to the sensitive nature of its questions." Oh, and definitely don't Google "Last Door Recovery s£xual assault" #Alberta #albertamodel #lastdoorrecoverysociety #abpoli #ableg #CorruptCare #daniellesmith #marshallsmith #gaslightgatekeepgirlboss #unfitforoffice #harmreductionsaveslives

It doesn't have to be a one-to-one comparison for it to be INCREDIBLY ALARMING. Every individual deserves their due process rights. Windsor experienced three overdoses in 24 hours. One person DIDN'T make it. Yet some still walk through life with ZERO compassion for the LOVED ONES LEFT BEHIND — the ones who may not even know yet that it was their person. And what if their LOVED ONE turns out to be YOUR DOCTOR? YOUR LAWYER? YOUR FUTURE BOSS!? What happens when THEY REALIZE IT WAS YOU who showed NO empathy? This can touch anyone’s life. Don’t wait until it’s close to home to care. Do better. 😕 #WindsorOverdoseCrisis #windsoroutreach #outreach #involuntarycare #safeinjectionsites #supervisedconsumptionsite #cts #scs #pwlle #SupervisedConsumption #saferchoices #safesupply #windsor #bully #stigma #wrong #bs #resources #canada #HarmReduction #overdoseawarenessday #WeRememberThem #EndTheStigma #CompassionIsPower #pwud #education

P.O.W.E.R. is among the many that supports @dulfbc 's work — DULF gifted us all with a map out of the toxic drug crisis, and their founders are being punished for challenging the status quo to do so In the face of social abandonment, the state should — at the very least — permit communities to stop the deaths themselves follow @dulfbc to keep up with how to support their legal challenge

Did you know that inhaling drugs is now the most common way people use opioids in Ontario — but there’s only ONE supervised space in the whole province for it? Ontario only has ONE supervised inhalation site — at Casey House in Toronto. Despite a "massive shift" in how people use drugs, the government still refuses to fund inhalation booths. The Ford government does not fund supervised inhalation. 💸 Only programs that can raise private money (like Casey House) can afford the $50K setup. 👥 Demand is high — 80% of clients at Casey House now choose to smoke rather than inject. - *@cbcnews - Toronto - June 15th, 2025 - "Despite 'massive shift' towards smoking over injection, Ontario has only 1 supervised drug inhalation space" - #HarmReduction #DrugPolicy #EndTheStigma #SafeInhalation #OntarioPolitics #HealthNotHarm #SupervisedConsumption #OverdosePrevention #WindsorHarmReduction #PeopleNotPolitics

Work with us! The Surrey Union of Drug Users (SUDU) is hiring a Community Organizer to support general operations and advocacy, including the SUDU Research & Policy Committee, for September 2025. In this unique role, the Community Organizer will support the continued growth and political advocacy of one of BCs fastest growing drug user-led organizations. You can view the full posting at https://sudu.ca/jobs, or visit the link in our bio. Interested applicants are invited to send a resume and cover letter to [email protected] by 11:59PM on July 1st, 2025. Cover letters should be limited to one page and include a response to the question “What does drug user liberation mean to you?” in addition to other information. While we will try to contact all applicants to inform them of a decision, only applicants selected for an interview may be contacted by July 15th, 2025. Onboarding will take place in the month of August. We encourage applicants with less familiarity with drug user organizing to attend a general meeting Mondays at 5PM at the Black Arts Centre (10305 City Pkwy #105, Surrey, BC V3T 4Y8) to meet members and see if this opportunity is the right fit.
