This was a large open air sinkhole we checked with @rodrigo_severo_eu_mesmo and @renata_reandrad on an south coast exepdition. If you looked up from the water you could see light and the large entrance. however, 3/4 of the way down you start gasping for air and feel completely out of breath. This Cave had slightly elevated CO2 levels at the bottom and it was gnarly, you felt out of breath and even @rosiepitibu was breathing hard, it took all of us about 30-40 mins to fully recover. This was one that I actually hoped did not go.

Oleg Shevchuk first explored Cueva de Macho after Macho, a local Dominican farmer, showed him the entrance.
The original access was no joke — first a -7 meter vertical pitch (already annoying), followed by a -30 meter vertical rappel straight into the water (extremely annoying). Every trip in and out was a real mission.
But the effort paid off.
After multiple exploration pushes underground, we eventually connected Cueva de Macho to Cueva Guerrero, and later to Oleg’s Bat House, turning what were once separate caves into one continuous underground system. What began as a single vertical drop is now part of a large cave network running beneath a vast stretch of classic Dominican countryside.
It is also within this cave system that some of the most significant paleontological discoveries in the Dominican Republic have been made — including complete monkey skeletons, multiple sloths, large crocodiles, and giant land turtles, along with many other remarkable specimens.
