Authenticity will always stand out more than imitation. There is something powerful about being fully and unapologetically oneself. #drsheyipt #quotes #motivation #beyourself #authenticity

Nothing says rest and relaxation like a week on the beach, celebrating friends. Prior to going on this vacation, my eyes had been twitching for two solid weeks because I was so stressed out, yet I didn’t even realize it. All it took was two or three days on the beach for my body to finally calm down, and the twitching stopped. Sometimes we think we’re okay when we’re really not. So listen to your body and take some time to disconnect. Thank you @edikaedika for this opportunity yo heal our souls as we celebrated you.🤗🤗🎊 @mickey.mc @samuellee.me #curacao #vacation #unwind #tourist #explore

It’s not impossible, it’s just unfamiliar. Give yourself time, discipline, and grace to grow into it. #drsheyipt #quotes #motivation #dotheimpossible #growth

Back in 2007, right before the 2008 Olympics, I went to China on tour with Ailey. It was my very first time in Asia, and baby, I was READY to see everything. We spent time in Beijing, Shanghai — which oddly made me feel at home like I was back in Lagos — and Hong Kong, which gave me very much Vegas energy. I was so excited to see all the tourist attractions… But plot twist: apparently **I** was also a tourist attraction. 😂 There I was, Black skin, braids, minding my business, and everywhere I went people wanted to take pictures **with me**. Not of the monuments. Not the architecture. Me. Sis was the landmark. I will never forget this adorable little boy, maybe 2 or 3 years old, playing in front of his home. He saw me and FROZE. Eyes wide. I smiled and waved, and his eyes got even wider… then he took off running! 😂😂😂 His little face said, “THEY DO EXIST!” Another thing I’ll never forget? The food. Whew. DELICIOUS. It completely ruined fast-food Chinese food in the U.S. for me forever. Now if I want really good Asian food, I’m trekking to Flushing, Koreatown, or Chinatown. I need the real thing! And the funniest memory? Getting kicked out of a store for out-bargaining the shop owner. Listen. I am Nigerian. Bargaining is in my DNA. 😂 You have not reached the final price until the seller snatches the item back and tells you to go away. That’s when you calmly say, “Okay, sorry,” and offer the same last price one more time. China was unforgettable. The sights, the food, the people, the culture, the comedy of it all — I still laugh thinking about it. 🇨🇳✨ #drsheyipt #dancept #tourlife #china #friday

In the fall of 2015, work took me to South Africa. Some experiences leave footprints on your heart no matter how much time passes. Visiting Nelson Mandela’s childhood home and touring Robben Island, where he was forced to work in the lime quarry for 13 years, was unforgettable. There was something holy about standing in places shaped by history, sacrifice, vision, and becoming. And then there was the visit to Oprah Winfrey’s school. That moment reached for something tender in me. It brought me back to my own days as a student in Lagos, Nigeria — to the rhythm of uniforms, classrooms, discipline, dreams, and the early shaping of a girl who did not yet know what her future would look like, only that she wanted it to be wide, meaningful, and full. As a teenager, when people asked me what I wanted to do for a living, I would say, “I don’t know, but I want to travel the world and get paid for it.” There is something humbling about realizing that some of the things you said in innocence were heard by heaven long before you understood what you were asking for. Looking back now, I realize some of our deepest desires are not random. Sometimes they are clues. Sometimes they are prayers before we know how to call them that. Sometimes they are little whispers from the life waiting for us. South Africa was one of those reminders for me. #drsheyipt #flashback #lifeofapt #southafrica #tourist
