KRAFTWERK LIVE 1976? I believe these are photos of Kraftwerk possibly at the Roundhouse London in 1976 . Ralf has one Minimoog on top of the Vako Orchestron and another to his left on what I believe is the Synthanorma sequencer which was first used on the “Trans Europe Express album. They didn’t tour again until 1981 with the release of “Computer World”. I have to say that’s some seriously large speakers and they’ve noted that they did not play In stereo, everything was mono so it didn’t matter where someone was sitting, they heard the same mix. As I mentioned in previous posts saw them the first time in 1975 in Philadelphia after “Autobahn” album at The Tower Theatre in May of 1975 after a snowstorm stranded them In upstate NY for the gig that was supposed to happen on April 4th along with Gary Wright and Greenslade. It was pretty mind-blowing back then. 🔊🎛️📡🎵🚗 #kraftwerk #autobahn #liveelectronicmusic #synthpop #mistersynthi

PETER SCHMIDT & BRIAN ENO: The artist Peter Schmidt first started to work with Eno in 1974 when he asked Peter to design the awesome cover to “Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy” which was a series of lithographs of Eno. I have a signed original lithograph that amazingly someone was selling on EBay like 20 years ago. 😊 Peter did the cover painting for the second Fripp and Eno album “Evening Star” and did the four wonderful prints that originally came with Eno’s “Before and After Science” album. Remember when cool swag used to come with records like Dark Side of the Moon and many others? Peter was also deeply involved with Eno in the creation of the “Oblique Strategies which have been used extensively by Eno on so many records. Her Schmidt passed away in January 1980 at the young age of 49.🙏🎨 #brianeno #peterschmidt #obliquestrategies #artist #mistersynthi

TANGERINE DREAM HOME STUDIO: I believe this is a shot of TD’s rehearsal and recording space from the 1980’s. There’s so many classic synths here including two PPG keyboards which were such an important part of their post 1970’s sound. They created a lot of great albums in the ‘80s and two of my favorites happen to be the live “Logos” and “Poland” records. I still find myself gravitating to those though I’m sure others have specific favorites. A great period and sonic shift from the earlier days of “Phaedra”, “Rubicon”, “Ricochet”, and “Stratosfear” which really were groundbreaking at the time. #tangerinedream #edgarfroese #ppg #electronicmusic #mistersynthi

KLAUS SCHULZE 1973: I had previously posted that Klaus’s first synth was an EMS Synthi A but I recently found out that it was actually a EMS VCS3 which he bought in London in 1973 but soon traded it for a Synthi A which was of course much more portable. I think the EMS was first used on his “Cyborg” album also from 1973, his second album. Prior to that it was all Farfisa keyboards which also remained a key part of his tonal palate for a long time. The EMS Synthi was such a key synth and sound source for decades and always seemed to be included in his rig. 🎛️🔊📡 #klausschulze #electronicmusic #vcs3 #krautrock #mistersynthi

VINCE CLARKE & ORBITAL: A had no idea that Vince and Paul Hartnoll created an album “2Square” in 2016. It was the first release on Vince’s label VeryRecords. I’ve not heard the album but apparently Vince created the initial tracks in his Brooklyn studio where I think this photo was taken and finished in Hartnoll’s studio in the UK. I’ll be checking this album out asap. 🎹🎛️🎼🔊 #vinceclarke #orbital #paulhartnoll #synthpop #mistersynthi

JOHN WETTON: I thought with all the Fripp posts it’s time to do one to acknowledge the incredible talent of John Wetton whose bass and vocals were so incredible in King Crimson. He had an amazing voice that could be subtle and a total powerhouse and his singing on the mid 1970’s album like “Larks Tongues in Aspic”, “Starless and Bible Black” and “Red” was just fantastic. His bass playing too was locomotive and I read that he used to break strings which isn’t so easy to do. Melodic, inventive, propulsive and huge he was on that instrument with Crimson, UK and Asia too. I think it’s ok to say he was a handsome dude as well. He helped create some of my favorite music and seeing him live with Roxy Music during the “Siren” tour was a real treat back in the day. RIP maestro. 🎼🔊🙏 #johnwetton #kingcrimson #asia #bass #mistersynthi @thatwettongirl

DAVID BYRNE / HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Well here I’m two days late as the 14th was David’s birthday. Now one thing I never knew is Mr. Byrne is from Scotland as I always thought he was American. Anyway along with Fripp, Eno, Mike Oldfield who all share very close birthdays there’s clearly something in the water in mid May that helped create some of the greatest musical change agents. I don’t think I need to wax poetic about David as we all likely know what he’s done and accomplished. He kind of helped make odd normal and wrote just fantastic songs. Didn’t hurt that he had a great little band of musicians to help either. So happy birthday Mr. Byrne, thank for singing songs about buildings, food and all sorts of other thingys too! 🎤🎸🎵🔊 #davidbyrne #talkingheads #brianeno #songwriter

DAVID GILMOUR & KATE BUSH: These are photos of Amnesty International benefit concert, The Secret Policeman’s Third Ball March 28, 1987 with David Gilmour and Kate Bush where they performed “Rock Ning Up That Hill”. Apparently it also featured Peter Gabriel on backing vocals. Now that is something I would have loved to see for sure. It was David Gilmour who helped Kate get her career started after hearing demos from her in 1974. He then produced some professional demos and helped her get a record deal with EMI. Pretty amazing. #davidgilmour #katebush #runningupthathill #petergabriel #mistersynthi

ROBERT FRIPP / HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Robert turns 80 today which is a bit hard to imagine, but what’s not hard to imagine is the incredible impact he’s had on contemporary music over so many decades. I’ve recently posted about him a few times so I’m not going to go all long winded again. He’s been a major change agent, a transformative composer and player and just so frippin’ fantastic. How about I just say a most sincere thank you for all the incredible music he’s created and the joy, inspiration and pleasure it’s brought us for so long. Happy birthday Mr. Fripp! 🙏❤️🎵🎸 #robertfripp #kingcrimson #progressiverock #leadguitar #mistersynthi

MIKE OLDFIELD / HAPPT BIRTHDAY: Right, so of course yesterday was Mike’s birthday and I’m right on track there. His work and albums across the last 50 years have provided some of the most unique, evocative, emotional and well crafted music that have in many way defied categorization. Tubular Bells was a shot across the bow creating something that was truly new and just so brilliantly executed that brought him world wide recognition and acclaim. He had of course done lots of wonderful playing with other artists like Kevin Ayers honing his skills and Bells was just the beginning really. As much as I love that album the following two records, “Hergest Ridge” and especially the pastoral and evocative “Ommadawn” just sealed the deal for me. Ommadawn rates up there with special albums like “Another Green World”, “New Age of Earth” and “Phaedra” that always provide a musical journey that so awesome. Mike has created so many terrific albums and I’m sure many have specific favorites. I have to say that his “Return to Ommadawn” was a really pleasant surprise and also just great. So here’s to Mr. Oldfield with many thanks for all the great music that’s enhanced our lives! 🎸🙏🎼🎹 #mikeoldfield #tubularbells #ommadawn #composer #mistersynthi

BRIAN ENO / HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Well I waited to be a day late so I don’t break my streak of, well, being a day late for birthdays. Yesterday was Brian’s birthday and I thought I’d do a “Brian Dump” of pictures across time of Mr. Eno. I’m not sure there’s much more I can say that I haven’t already as Eno has been the most influential and inspiring musician to me personally having a tremendous impact on my concepts and execution of sound design for over 50 years. His body of work in bands, as a solo artist and as a producer is nothing short of incredible. So here’s wishing him health, happiness, and continued sonic exploration that’s a real gift to the rest of us. This baby’s still on fire! 😊🍼🔥🎛️🔊🎵🎹 #brianeno #eno #composer #producer #mistersynthi
