Version 5 of your mix isn’t a revision problem. It’s an intention problem. Most engineers jump straight into a session -balance, EQ, compression - without ever asking the one question that determines everything: what is this mix supposed to feel like? That missing step is what turns one revision into eight. And it’s what quietly destroys client trust every single time - not because your mixes are bad, but because of what all those revisions reveal. New episode is up. I break down exactly why clients lose confidence, why the revision cycle is a symptom not the problem, and the 4-step pre-mix process that locks in trust before you’ve played them a single note. Your room isn’t the problem. You’re hiding behind it. Million-dollar mixes get made in bedrooms every day… And terrible mixes come out of expensive rooms. Because the room doesn’t make decisions. You do. Fix the decisions first. Everything else comes after. Download the Irreversible Mix Checklist ↓ Link In Bio #mixingengineer #audiomixing #musicproduction #audioengineering #mixingtips

One 10-minute conversation can eliminate 5 revisions. Most engineers skip it entirely. Before you open the session, get clear on the intent. What’s the emotional target? What does the reference tell you? What matters most? When you know that going in, every decision you make has a reason behind it. And your client feels that. Stop guessing. Start aligning. 🎚️ Download the Irreversible Mix Checklist - link in bio. Use it before every mix. #mixengineer #mixingtips #recordingstudio #audioproduction #musicproducer

You’re making your mix smaller without realizing it. Trying to make everything present. Everything wide. Everything “perfect.” That’s the problem. When everything is big… nothing hits. Big mixes come from contrast, not control. Get the framework ↓ Link In Bio #mixingengineer #musicproduction #audiomixing #audioengineering #producerlife

You’re not controlling compression… you’re reacting to it. If you don’t know what you’re trying to control— you’re guessing. Download the system ↓ Link In Bio #mixingtips #musicproduction #audiomixing #audioengineering #producerlife

If your mix is taking days… it’s already going in the wrong direction. The longer you work, the more you start guessing. And once that happens: every decision gets worse. Good decisions have a shelf life. And it’s not days… it’s hours. Fast mixes come from clear decisions. Most mixes don’t fail at the beginning… they fall apart at the end. Why? Because everything starts to feel equally important. When everything matters… nothing does. Build hierarchy first. This “rule” is ruining more mixes than it’s helping. High-passing everything except the kick and bass sounds logical… until your mix starts feeling thin, brittle, and lifeless. Because low-end isn’t just for bass instruments. There’s valuable weight and support in: pianos guitars synths room mics pads When you remove that blindly, you’re not cleaning your mix… you’re stripping out the foundation. Filters aren’t a default move. They’re a solution to a real problem. If there’s no problem, don’t cut. Trust matters more than your mix. That’s a hard truth most engineers don’t want to hear. Because we spend hours chasing subtle improvements… details most clients will never even notice. What they do notice is this: Do they trust your decisions? I’ve seen “worse” mixes get approved simply because the client trusted the engineer behind them. Because mixing isn’t just about sound- it’s about confidence, clarity, and leadership. If your clients hesitate when they hear your mix… it’s not just the mix. It’s trust. Why are you EQing problems… you can’t even hear? Because most engineers were taught to “fix” sound in isolation. So you pull up a vocal, start cutting the usual frequencies… and slowly remove the very thing that made it feel like a record. Great mixers don’t start by carving up the focal point. They protect it. And instead, they shape the supporting elements around it. That’s how you get clarity without killing emotion. Most engineers are still using their master bus like it’s a last-minute fix. That’s the problem. Your master bus isn’t there to repair your mix at the end… it’s there to shape the sound from the very beginning. Think of it like your console, your output stage. Every move you make should be happening through it, not slapped on after. When each piece of your chain is doing a small amount, it adds up to a polished, cohesive record without overprocessing. Stop fixing. Start mixing into your sound. Most engineers say they want their mix to feel “glued together.” So they throw a compressor on the mix bus and start pushing it harder and harder. But real mix glue usually doesn’t come from heavy compression. It comes from balance. If your mix only feels connected when the compressor is working hard, the problem probably isn’t the compressor , it’s the relationship between the instruments. Great mixers often use mix bus compression very lightly… sometimes just 1–2 dB of gain reduction. Just enough to add cohesion — not enough to force the mix together.
