For the past six months, off and on, I’ve been working on Red Hat’s new video outro. That’s the little logo animation that plays after every one of our videos. It’s almost finished and should release in the next month or so. It’s been a long but fun process. Here’s a bunch of test frames I made that were passed on. Probably 5 other tests that didn’t make this cut as well.
Last week at Red Hat Summit in Denver we put on a really amazing show which started out with a roughly 90 second live musical act accompanying an incredible animation from @thisisbien and production from @briteideascts
The project started around 6 months ago with an original concept and design frames from myself. We then adapted and adjusted that concept with help from @reidhaithcock , @laurawalters , @josephschlosser , @dave_baeumler , @michaelbesser , and many others on the Red Hat team.
Then @thisisbien started cooking. Some incredible creativity and guidance from Hung and @alishahkramer and amazing design and animation from @deannajreilly and the rest of Bien’s animators/designers.
Our amazing partners at Brite Ideas designed and constructed a huge stage with 12 screens including an LED screen as the stage floor and roughly 70 ft wide main content screen. They also worked on lighting and other stage production elements for this intro. Not to mention the huge support they provide during the rest of the event.
Somewhere between 50-100 (a complete guess) people worked on this project from start to finish over 6 months. Red Hat internal creative, communications, events, and many other support teams; Brite Ideas with the stage, lighting, and production tech; Bien with incredible creativity and animation; an amazing composer who created a custom song for the project; the live band who really helped pull the whole thing together; and probably a lot of other people I am forgetting.
Easily one of my favorite projects to date. Thank you to everyone who contributed.
After this opener was finished, we only had about 4 hours worth of content and an audience of about 6,000+ people to worry about. NBD!

Strategy Short is a new internal Red Hat series informing associates about how their work connects to the larger company strategy. First episode was just released today. Hopefully we can release it external soon. Here’s a cut down of the graphics kit I made for the series including 31 characters, 8 mogrt files and a lot more.
