TORN EP TALKS: DREX W/@manafex_

I've mentioned before on twitter the origin story of this tune but I'll reiterate here as well:
Jack & I have both been on parallel journeys musically since 2017, the track DREX is emblematic of that in a way. We're both really happy to be able to pull off and try new production techniques together after supporting eachothers individual growth for so long. Lots of "we'll make something some day" type conversations eventually lead to us starting the tune early this year, and eventually finishing it a while later. Jack is a very intuitive guy generally, he has a wily sense of things around him and is smashing his music goals constantly, I'm very greatful we were able to make art and get it somewhere for a home to release on like @crowsnestaudio

Torn Ep Track Talks: Torn
Here's me again working on a song that probably wasn't Torn but maybe was part of the EP and didn't make it due to quality issues.
The title track of my EP on crowsnest.
When conceiving the idea for this track I was watching the Lord of the Rings films.
One thing that stood out to me was the sound design that went into the orcs (the rattling of their armour, their war cries, weapons sheathing and unsheathing, etc.) and the musical motifs that accompanied them (that huge horn section making that gesture we all know associated with Sauron and Saruman, which ngl kinda sounds like a hook in an EDM track if you flipped it, HA!).
I set out to try emulate some of those sonic landscapes into a track and what we have is Torn, some of this is especially obvious when the track reaches its bridge where it takes on an almost tribal drum sounding percussive performance, but by simply using marching foley, weapons scraping and chants, I think the vibe of the track really does come across how I wanted it to. Matched with the great visuals of the EP, and I think Torn is one of my favourite tracks that I've written so far!

TORN EP TRACK TALKS: GARDEN NOIR
for the next few posts as promised im going to talk about the origins and story of the tracks off my latest @crowsnestaudio release!
The first track of this EP was for a different project I had in mind initially, it was going to be this really textured EP that had a huge focus on experimental and sub heavy bass music but it fell through due to a lot of the other tracks not being up to scratch. Eventually it made its way onto this track with a few modifications and I think it really helps in setting the tone of the EP as well as conveying a dystopic theme in its own unique way. Garden Noir represents dystopia in the sense of nature reclaiming itself after decades of neglect. The time-lapse here is of me working on the track all the way back in February!
