The Basket Star is an echinoderm found across reefs to depths of 6,000 feet. Evolving over 500 million years, it feeds at night by catching small copepods and crustaceans with its delicate tendrils. Their entire skeleton acts as a giant eye, covered in light-sensitive photoreceptors and have a lifespan of up to 35 years. The variety of life in the ocean is truly incredible.

The ceiba tree is considered a “Tree of Life” by many indigenous cultures, most famously the Maya, who called it Ya’axche. It symbolizes a connection between the underworld, the human world, and the heavens, with its roots reaching down, its trunk supporting the middle world, and its branches reaching for the sky. According to Maya mythology, four ceiba trees were planted at the corners of the world, with a fifth at the center to hold up the sky and connect the three realms.
