When I was thinking about the theme for my solo show, a few things initially popped up for me. But one theme in particular outshined the others. It just seemed to be a natural extension of what my people were already conveying. Even still, the focus was on the other, when all along it should have been more inward. Because a solo show is personal, and for me, the word hiraeth is so closely tied to certain people and not just geographical areas and nostalgic vessels, and so it only seems right to expose the very heart of me in this upcoming show.
I am very excited to share that my e-commerce site is officially open for business! 🎉
To celebrate, I have applied a 20% off discount to all of my available original works. The sale will go live tomorrow morning at 9 am EST and will end on Sunday evening at 11:45 pm EST.

Just a quick note to say that I am taking a little break from posting on here. Between garden projects, preparing for a solo, and travelling, I need to put all my energy into making lovely things and so it may be quiet over here for the next few weeks.
I look forward to sharing more details about the show in June. Until then, expect to see some pics from our trip.
Enjoy the rest of May.
I have decided to do a limited edition print run of my Tugboat Captain on Somerset Velvet fine art paper.
The dimensions will be 24x36 inches, for $300 CAD.
The inspiration behind this piece was twofold. The song Tugboat by Galaxie 500 was playing when I sat down at my desk. It is my favourite song by them and I often find myself humming the tune while puttering around my studio. The song was written about the Velvet Underground guitarist Sterling Morrison who ended up leaving the band to pursue his studies in medieval literature and worked as a tugboat captain while completing his PhD. He enjoyed the gig so much that, he decided to stay and ended up accepting a full time contract as a tugboat captain.
For me, this portrait is an ode to the unconventional life and the freedom that comes with doing what makes you happy. I obviously never knew Sterling, but based on what I have read about him, I think we would have got on very well.
If interested in the print, please send me a DM.
This dreamy head has just been uploaded to the SMALL HEAD SALE section of my website.
La Petite Danseuse is 11x14 inches, gouache on Yupo paper and is $300 CAD.
You can never have enough pink in my opinion. This lady is off to a good start and I am excited to see where she goes. This week has been non-stop with art related stuff and I’m looking forward to a weekend spent in my garden. It’s full of pink tulips, ranunculus and hyacinths. It’s no surprise I pulled out my big tube of pink paint for her dress.

I couldn’t be happier. These two pieces are off to the same collector! I have only been active on Substack for a few weeks, but I am already connecting with so many lovely people.
I am feeling very fortunate and grateful that people connect with my work in this way. I said that I hoped it would never not make me do a jig every time someone chose to have a piece of mine in their home, and five years in and it still makes me do a little dance of joy.
I am also realizing I need to make some new art. I will be starting a commission soon, but I also have a few big pieces that I had started and need to revisit.
This small portrait is up for grabs over on my Substack! dmcart
If you would like to enter the contest, head on over to Substack for the details. The contest runs from now until 5pm EST on Sunday, April the 19th. Shipping is covered by me. The portrait is an original work of art on paper and it will be signed.
I’m really loving Substack and the hope is to transition fully over onto that platform. The level of engagement is so much better, and I hope you will join me.
