Tomorrow at @lancasterzinefest I’ll have the follow up to my Filipino memoir “Mestizo” 📖 Book 2: “The city of gentle people” picks up where the first one left off, and continues exploring the experience of learning about one’s culture while still feeling like a stranger to it all. I’ve got a small run printed with a slick color cover. I hope anyone who picked up book 1 enjoys returning to the adventure 🇵🇭 See ya’ll at zinefest!

My first time at @pie.burgh was a blast. There was a good energy in that room, and everyone I met was super kind. I wish I had checked out the Heinz ketchup museum more, I couldn’t help but keep talking to folks whenever I left my table 💬
People were really into the latest @comix.club anthology “Fool’s Gold” 🌟 That risograph is powerful man! I only have one left going into SPACE next weekend. Thanks again to everyone who came to my table to check it out.

Streaming last nite with @comix.club to celebrate the last of anthology pre-orders was a blast. I definitely am not used to live streaming anymore, my back needs emergency yoga 🧘🏾
I’ve been hard at work on the follow up to my memoir, and I realize I haven’t shared my new method. I tried this for the first time while making my story for the third @xomikbuk anthology, and it blends different aspects of both traditional and digital. I usually do my thumbs from a sketchbook, then I blow those up from a scan, and print/place each spread across a binder. Then I use a pencil, and red/blu pens to do corrections, and those become my pencils. I also love using masking tape, and post-its to perform some mark marking surgery.
Only then do I scan it all back in, and top it off with inks and tones in Procreate.
"This Excerpt from my Memoir Comic "Mestizo" is about the animals I played with in the Philippines, most notably witnessing a spider fight.
It leads into an emotional conversation as my parents break the news to me about moving from the States to live there."

The biggest comix party comes once a year, and I think I look forward to it more than any holiday. It was my first year representing myself as a cartoonist at SPX, and I had a great time. Made tons of trades, and got to meet a lot of cartoonists I respect and admire. Big shout out to @mintynjeb & @kylekerezsi from @comix.club , ya’ll are great table mates 🤝
A big thanks to @xomikbuk for presenting me with a major award. Never won a “Xomi” before. It’s even better than winning an Eisner I’m sure of it.
Oh, and to the girl who read through Mestizo and said “This is important, keep going” - Thank you for that.
