I genuinely don’t know where the time has gone. This Monday was my second anniversary of soundtracking the first Monday of the month at @voices_radio and I still can’t quite believe it. This show felt like a little nod to the first one. It started as an ambient experiment: horizontal, slow, designed to ease rather than energise. But it mutated into something that felt more true: the music I’d actually want to hear waking up, or lying in on a bank holiday with nowhere to be. Something to put a quiet spring in your step and a smile on your face before the day really starts. Ambient at heart but all genres welcome as long as the sound is sweet and carries that feeling of a gentle, unhurried morning: pop, experimental pop, jazz, soul, reggae, dub, deep house and the occasional curveball… This second anniversary show drifts from Maps and Diagrams through Boards of Canada, Caribou and The Books, past Hall & Oates and Dead Man’s Bones, and out the other side via Axel Boman, Route 8 and Teen Daze. Time to introduce our line-up for Saturday @number90london - the perfect crew to warm you up for @brama______ ✨ DJ and record label boss @drasticshuffle is a hero of London’s underground, with a career spanning promotion, music journalism and radio across two continents. A resident of Netil Radio and Voices, her eclectic sounds incorporates leftfield house, techno and quirky electronica. @christian.perdiem is a growing presence on the London scene. Influenced by his time spent in the US, Europe and London- his sets blend vocal house and disco- with a nod to heavier sounds. He is a Bloop radio resident and is steadily carving out his place in London’s nightlife. Dancer, then DJ, @ftronicplaysmusic gained a love of electronic music in undeground scene of the Steel City. This week we sat down with someone whose path through music doesn’t follow a straight line — and is all the more interesting for it. @drasticshuffle is originally from Mexico. Built her career in Spain as a music journalist and editor of Playground magazine. Now London-based: studio manager, label head, radio host, DJ. She talks about growing up with a disco enthusiast dad (she still has his Cerrone record), what she sees from the booth that no one else does, the extroverted version of herself that only exists on a dancefloor — and whether dancefloors today are really listening the same way they used to. B SIDE is a new series of events, curated by yours truly, where DJs dig deep into their collections to bring you hidden gems, rare tracks, and the tunes we rarely hear on a night out.
