NINE YEARS AGO TODAY. Can’t believe it. What a time, what an event, not only to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the legendary all ages punk venue 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, California, but also to celebrate the amazing community and bands that was and is Lookout Records. As Nick from the Smugglers put it, “it was a reunion with a family I forgot I had.” And because of this, the Smugglers got back together for two years of shows! And it provided a happy ending for my book “Dirty Windshields” which was previously wrapping up on a pretty big buzzkill. 😅
Massive thanks to Alex Botkin @lavasocks for putting it all together and since releasing two Smugglers reissues, including the most recent 30th anniversary edition of “Selling the Sizzle.”
And to my wife Jill for secretly flying down to Berkeley and surprising me at the end of the show. We kissed in the pouring rain out the side door on 8th Street. So romantic!
Did it really happen?? Were you there???

Originally released in 2000, this EP marked a pivotal moment for MR. T EXPERIENCE, delivering "a healthy dose of classic indie rock, complete with the classic absurdity and cleverness," as noted by All Music. Featuring standout tracks like "Leave the Thinking to the Smart People" and "Stephanies of the World Unite," this is the first time it's available on vinyl, expertly remastered by Justin Perkins with refreshed artwork by Chris Appelgren.
COMING THIS MONDAY @chrisdemakesapodcast : @drankf and I break down the writing, recording, and inspiration behind the Mr T Experience 1995 fan favorite single “Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba”!
Just got the latest Sounds Radical re-issue (at right below.) No matter how carefully you plan, you never know if elaborate packaging ideas will actually work till you're actually holding the results, especially if there are a lot of moving parts. A lot could have gone wrong with that die-cut outer sleeve tv-tube shape and the actual album cover inner sleeve set into it. But in fact, it functions perfectly. Best Sounds Rad re-issue contrivance so far. Sounds great too. So, that's another one done.
