Another one from @glenmorangie This time from their Barrel Select series, the 12 year old Calvados cask finish. Initially matured in bourbon casks and then finished in Calvados casks and bottled at a nice 46%. This is definitely more my speed.

Like many Glenmos, this is a very gentle dram. Floral, honey, vanilla and some nice baked fruit notes. An easy sipper for sure.

It’s been a while since I’ve tried any new-ish releases from Glenmorangie. This triple cask is aged in bourbon, new charred oak and rye casks making this a very light whisky with pear, honey and vanilla. At just 40% I wouldn’t really drink this as a sipper but it would work well in some cocktails, and at around $35 for a bottle I think that might be what they’re going for.

I made a recent visit to @griffodistillery in Petaluma, CA. Griffo is an interesting distillery. With just one, relatively small still, they produce all types of spirits including whiskey, gin, vodka, brandy and coffee liqueur. With a custom built still designed to capture more data, they are using a ton of science to make their spirits…and it seems to be working.

They were kind enough to have me out to take a look around, enjoy some drinks and live music and to just learn a bit more about them. I’m most interested in the whiskey of course, but it was fun to taste through their other spirits. Cheers!

It doesn’t get much better than this. 15 year, peated @benriach matured in an Oloroso sherry butt and bottled at 63.6%. 🤤🥃
